This is an excellent small boutique hotel! Visited: February 2009 |

We stayed at Mafolie for a week recently. It was a wonderful, privately-owned, small hotel with a fabulous view overlooking Charlotte Amalie. They also had a lovely pool and deck (also with fabulous view -- and a pool bar, too!), a great restaurant, and a friendly and always helpful staff.
Mafolie reminded me of the small hotels we have stayed at on the Left Bank in Paris. It was located high enough up the hill over the town, so that the evenings were pleasantly cool. It had 22 rooms, which all shared the great view and which ranged from quite small to quite large. They were a little "funky" in their decor, but were comfortable, each with air conditioning, TV, and telephone. The hotel provided a complimentary breakfast.
Mafolie was reasonable in price, and located so that it was easy to get anywhere on the island. Although Mafolie provided a shuttle service to Magens Bay (the most popular public beach on the island), I would recommend renting a car from one of the local car rentals.
The key decision you have to make with Mafolie is whether you want a small, privately-owned hotel with character and a warm, family, and "Caribbean" feel; or whether you want a large, beachfront resort similar to large modern hotels anywhere. For the former, Mafolie can't be beat, and we would go back in a heartbeat. |

Our stay at the Mafolie was wonderful! The views were breathtaking, and the food was fabulous!
Our room was decorated in warm colors, beautiful tile floors, and the bedding and window treatments complemented the setting.
Also, tropical gardens, fountain pools, picturesque walkways dotted the property. The pool bar had great lunch, and the main restaurant was of gourmet quality. |

Everything about this boutique-y hotel was great. We had a fabulous view from the suite we stayed in. Overall, the staff was very friendly.
The food in the restaurant was delicious (the lobster bisque, snapper and filet mignon were the best dinners we had on both St. Thomas and St. John). The restaurant also provided an equally incredible view of the Havensight and the bay. The continental breakfast added to the value.
We only stayed two days, but we loved every bit of it. It was a great value. We would stay again and would definitely dine at the restaurant again! |

We ended up staying at the Mafolie at the last minute after the hotel we booked with messed up our reservations. We were happy we did!
They had the best view of the harbor on the island and the most friendly and helpful staff we have ever found.
We will reccomend this Bed and Breakfast to everyone we talk to. |
