5.0 stars Samuels Cottages offer casual, camp style excellence. Visited: March 2008

I can't think of a better place to stay in St. John. From here, you can walk to downtown Cruz Bay in ten minutes, and to the Starfish Market in five.

They have a great porch with sunset views, and it is spotlessly clean. Patrice is an amazingly gracious hostess. I have visited the island for ten years running, and lived and worked here for a few months. I can say this place is great. Is it luxury? No. Is it great cheap digs on a wonderful island? Yes.

4.0 stars This is the best value in Cruz Bay. Visited: April 2006

We already stayed at Samuels Cottages four times, and soon we will be here for 11 days again. We can't wait to go back!

Since St. John's main attraction is its stunning natural beauty, we leave home in the morning and get to our accommodation to sleep only. The location is extremely convenient, and the cottage is very comfortable to provide us everything we need for our stay. The owners are wonderful people and once you spend some time there you want to come back.

Samuels Cottage is a five-star in terms of value, and a three-star for comfort and location. Those who are on budget just can't find any better place on the island.

3.0 stars What a wonderful little secret! Visited: August 2002

What a great kept secret! With St. John’s limited number of hotel rooms (with prices only your parents can afford) Samuels Cottages are a great find!

I’ve come here numerous times, both staying in the nice hotels and on boats, so when I decided to come here as long as I could afford, I needed to make some financial decisions. Blow all my money on a hotel for a week, or stay a month… close to town, with off street parking, large porches and even a little view of the beautiful waters we come here for, this is the true meaning of value!

I’ve been here a month, and thank my lucky stars I found the place on line, as they don’t advertise anywhere. These are true cottages, a bit rustic, and with no daily cleaning service, separate from each other, with a kitchen, A/C in the bedroom, cable TV and free local phone service…but who cares when you’re saving hundreds of dollars when planning a long stay ….something you don’t find on St. John with their reasonable rates.

My cottage has two double beds in the bedroom and a single in the living room. I have ceiling fans in both the living room and bedroom. Plus, the owners are wonderful locals who will do anything to help. It’s always good to get a car for a few days, to go to the beaches and tour the island as you please. But you don’t have to have a car from this location.

Also, eating out can become very pricy here, so it’s nice to have the kitchen facilities – even a microwave and coffee maker. Starfish Market gets all the good press around here, but they are also the most expensive. Try Marina Market, Dolphin Market or even Katilady for food stuff before Starfish. Better yet, bring a cooler with you filled with your favorites. Healthy Choice meals are $5.95 here! Don’t bring booze or cigs, as you can get just about any brand for $2 - $2.50, even in the bars. The cottages are a short walk to the two breakfast places in town, and Dolphin Market is even closer. Everything else is just a few feet from here.

The only other recommendation I can give you - and it is as important as kissing your mother when you say goodbye, no matter how old you are – is to say “GOOD” Morning, Afternoon or Evening to every local you wish to have a conversation with or to ask a question, then say thank you or good day at the end. I can’t stress what it means to the outcome of your island experience. Also, the ferry runs to Jost van Dyke from STJ Friday – Sunday, and every day to Tortola, so take advantage of the other beauties around here.

So, unless you have a lot of money, or want to be waited on at the pricy places, this is the place.
