This trip to St. Thomas was with my wife, wife's sister, her husband, their son and me. We were somewhat apprehensive because our reservations were made online "sight unseen" for a two-bedroom, two-bath accommodation.
When we received our reservation, we found it to have an error. However, it was corrected the next day by phone.
When we checked in, finding the office was a little difficult, we were informed that we had been upgraded to a two-bedroom, two-bath plus a loft. That really worked out, so that my nephew ended up having a room to himself.
We enjoyed the view of the sailboats in the bay, and the mountains provided beautiful scenery. In the condo, we especially made good use of the washer/dryer.
We found the kitchen, the dining area and the TV viewing area in very good condition. The bed my wife and I shared sagged in the middle, but was comfortable enough.
The only drawback was that it is rather far from the main shopping area, and could be expensive to hire a cab and inconvenient if you travel by bus.
Overall, we found the accommodations very comfortable and recommend this to anyone. |

My wife and I have rented condos and houses for years - from Hawaii and the Keys to different places in the Caribbean. Some were fabulous (Hawaii) and some were adequate (Keys). What we found is that it is very dependent on the owner and the management company.
The Anchorage is an older complex, and the original owners are just now selling off to new owners who are fixing units up. I was in 223 which had new furniture, bathrooms, tile and paint. While the 122 was just getting new furniture and bathrooms.
The locale is quiet, and the snorkeling is good if you go off to the right past the first two docks or toward the Elysian past the yacht club dock. A southern sting ray has taken up residence in the area.
The resort is also conveniently located close to Red Hook and the ferry dock to St. John. You will need a car to get around and to get groceries (Food Center or Marina Market).
We've stayed at other locations on St. Thomas and St. John, and we will be back at the Anchorage for Christmas. |

We rented a condo R215 from McLauglin-Anderson and we were very disappointed in the accommodations.
We found the condo in okay condition but - we had terrible towels (very old - strings hanging), dirty vents, the balcony furniture was old and rusty and the patio screen was ripped.
We immediately contacted McLaughlin-Anderson - to tell them our disappointment and they told me they would contact the owners. When they did, the owner didn't care to make things right. So It was a very disappointing place.
The grounds and the area were great - it was just the one condo that we stayed in. I would certainly go back to St. Thomas - but I'm not sure where to stay. |

Anchorage Inn was a very nice place to stay. We were treated very nice and they upgraded us to a three bedroom, three bath condo at no additional charge.
One of the nicest things was its location. There was no hustle and bustle but if that's what you want, it's ninutes away. It was also very close to so many nice things - St. John Ferry, the town of Red Hook, Megans Beach, the Renaissance Grand, Sapphire Beach Hotel and it was a short 25 minute ride to the craziness of Charlotte Amalie.
A car was a must and the Anchorage could be a little difficult to find the first time. But it was worth it. The grounds were impeccable and "Bonnies by the Sea" was a short 100 yard walk.
If there was a downside, our condo could have used a little updating.
The "Elysian" was right next door and was a gorgeous property. Our room was $269.00 per night plus tax. |

Anchorage Beach Resort is a nice, quiet complex. Visited: December 2002 |

This is a quiet complex on a quiet beach. The bay is small and boats from the yacht club are close to shore. The best place to snorkel and swim is Secret Harbour (five minute drive).
The pool is small, and they have a decent restaurant. They have nice tennis courts, but they are not lighted (there are lights there, but they don't work). That was a big disappointment to our family.
I recommend you rent a car! The complex has a new gate and taxi drivers do not like to go there. You can rent a car at the complex through EZ Car Rental.
The condos are adequate-nothing special but great for families. They have great balconies.
The best beaches are on St. John. It is well worth the ferry trip. |
