4.0 stars We had a great vacation at the Divi. Visited: December 2008

We had a great vacation at the Divi.

However, I suggest you fly Delta instead of American Airlines. We were nine hours late on our way down. It was overbooked, and we were late leaving St. Croix. We had to spend New Years Eve in Miami, where they don't speak English. Also, one of our bags was opened in Miami, and we were missing things.

When we arrived, the check in was great - even at 1:00 am. The room was nice. Although it was not brand new, it was clean and large. The ocean was 50 steps from the door of our room.

They had a beautiful beach, with ample beach chairs, a bar, and an open air restaurant. Also, snorkel and scuba equipment were available. The casino was nice, and had fairly liberal slots. They also had a different (and good) band in the casino bar at night.

All in all, we had a good trip. I would recommend this place to my best friend.

5.0 stars I love the Divi! Visited: October 2008
Posted by jess116000
The Divi is amazing! The beach is beautiful, and there are beautiful mountains everywhere on this side of the island.

We stayed in Christiansted the first night at Sugar Beach. When we checked out and came to the Divi, I thought I had died and went to heaven. Sugar Beach was a dump in the middle of the projects compared to the Divi.

Yes, the Divi is about 15-minutes out on the east side of the island. However, just rent a car, and you will feel like you are in paradise at the Divi.

Also, there were some great restaurants on that side of St. Croix - Cheeseburger in Paradise, East End Pizza, Starlite Grille, Chicken Charlies, and a few delis as well.

The Divi was clean and well kept. They had nice staff, with friendly bartenders, too. We were here during hurricane Omar, and I couldn't have been more pleased with the way the Divi handled things.

I will definitely go back to the Divi. I can't imagine staying anywhere else in St. Croix! Stay at the Divi, rent a car, and explore St. Croix. You will love it!

5.0 stars You'll come back. Visited: September 2008

Every guestroom faces the ocean. If you are lucky enough to book a ground floor room, you'll find yourself mere steps from the ocean. The villas that grace this property sit elevated across the road on the hillside. They also face the ocean. The rooms are light, bright, and very nicely decorated. The choice of colors and the wicker furniture accent the white canvas of the rooms.

The staff is very friendly and down to earth - from the manager to housekeeping and maintenance. They even know where things are around the island.

Service at the restaurants is based on "Caribbean timing" - so relax, have a cool beverage, and enjoy the ambiance. Meals are tasty, and delightful in their presentation. By the way, you have got to try the wings served at the deli downstairs next to poolside bar. They're awesome!

The Divi has something for everyone. There's a casino and night club for adults, and "nightly family entertainment" of steel pan music; crab races; Mocko Jumbi Dancers; etc. most of the year. Water sports, and miniture golf are also availible.

The Divi is located on the far southeast coast at Turner Hole, so rent a car - and remember to drive on the left.

1.0 stars We experienced a dinner disaster at the Starlight Restaurant. Visited: July 2007
Posted by bobnbea
We were excited about eating at The Divi. We had checked their menu and the beautiful restaurant.

We made reservations for a Sunday night, ordered drinks and waited and waited for them because they had to be brought up from downstairs (the upstairs bar was closed).

We were a party of four. Our two orders of sea bass arrived first. The fish was not fully cooked. The scalloped potatoes were cold and brown. The other two entrees arrived significantly later. We sent the fish back to be cooked. We received new platters, but it was after 9:00 pm and we had lost our appetites.

As a consolation, we were given an iced tea and a coke for free. We spent over $100 for supposedly a high class meal. It was extremely disappointing. We do not recommend the Starlight Restaurant.

3.0 stars It was safe, clean and out of the way. Visited: April 2006

My visit to the Divi Resort was pretty much as I had expected, since I had been there before for dinner and a few activities during my previous trips to St. Croix. I stayed in a standard deluxe room, that was great for the rate I was paying.

As an experienced traveler, I seek a safe, clean place to lay my head down at the end of a day - and that's exactly what I got. The bonus of "a fun-loving staff" (if not a bit slow...but you have to love that Caribbean pace ), crab races, water sports, a very good (if not pricey) restaurant, and a casino makes the Divi a great place to vacation. I recommend checking out their breakfast one morning, (eat up - you'll have the rest of the day to burn it off).

Located at Turner Hole, on the southeast section of St. Croix means that you'll need to rent a car to have the freedom to tour the island and its highlights. Don't worry about getting lost, there are roadside signs all over the island to get you back (or ask anyone).

I would stay here again without a doubt. As a matter of fact, I'm bringing my family on my next visit, and so can you.

But be aware that there are too many good places to eat - especially along the Christiansted Waterfront; too many things to see; and far too many things to do! So, I suggest you rent a car!

3.0 stars I think St. Croix has better places! Visited: March 2005

I don't usually recommend Divi, as the beach is poor for swimming, but as family was coming and it was close by, we used it.

The room was okay, except for the peeling paint and the roaches we saw in the bathroom. We had to chase down maids daily for coffee, toilet paper, etc.

The rooms also had kitchenettes, but be advised they provided nothing in the way of dishes or silverware.

A $25 per person deposit was required for beach towels, and local calls were .75, which I contested as there was no information in the room stating this. But they refused to drop the charges.

The waitress in the pool bar was very poor. She seemed to have no interest in setting up tables and other things. And we were shocked to see an automatic 15% tip added - unheard of here and it was certainly not deserved.

Also, the pool sign read that it was to open at 8:00 am, but it was not ready until 9:30 a.m. The cafe was also late opening.

5.0 stars It was wonderful, peaceful, and all of everything we wanted. Visited: February 2005

Divi took us in without an advance reservation as we were escaping from Chenay Bay. The weekly cost was very reasonable(a little more than half what we paid the previous week at the other place).

The room was large, comfortable, quiet and exceptionally clean with cable/direct TV. We enjoyed it so well, they let us stay another week (making three weeks total on St. Croix, two weeks at Divi).

The maid service (Luci in particular) was better than we have had anywhere state-side. In two weeks, she didn't miss a single thing and she often provided that little extra attention we liked so much. The hotel staff was on top of everything, hosting soccer players, VIPs, the owner and all the rest of us all at once without fault. They were all very friendly and immediately attended to any request.

There were always plenty of beach towels, lounge chairs, floats, watercraft with great instructors (especially John and Brett). They also provided live entertainment like the Jumbies and steel bands, good food (breakfast, lunch and dinner), and security.

The easterly facing side provided the most beautiful sunrises right from our balcony just by opening the curtains. It was absolutely beautiful. We also caught one sunrise from our lounge chair in the sand.

The beach was immaculately kept, and the water was clear and warm with just the right surf and wind. We didn't see any better beach in our three weeks of island exploration. The east end (especially the south shore) of St. Croix was great.

Checkout was a breeze and the bill was exactly right and very reasonable. We had a car and always were able to park right in front. Shuttle to the casino (across the road) was provided, but not really needed as it was just a little stroll in paradise. The best bands played at the casino from about 8:00 pm until 4:00 am. A show band ("Area Code") from NYC and Baltimore gave us great pleasure.

In summary, this resort had everything we wanted at our price and to our delight. We're going back ASAP.

There were no crowds, the beach/water toys were available right there, and there was a casino across the street. They also had a great staff.

The drawback was the food. At its best it was, well... hotel food. It was nothing great. I would suggest you rent a car and try the places nearby. You'll need the car anyway, as the hotel was out by itself on the east end of the island.

I am booking my room for August right now, (I love hurricanes).

I have been to Divi Flamingo and loved it. I have been to many other locations and find the US traveler usually moves too fast and expects New York minute service. If that is what you want - please stay in the US - I don't want you on my vacation. :-) I'll let you know what I think in August.

Divi Divi offered a great place to hang and spend the afternoon. The waters were warm and inviting. Snorkeling was exhilarating, but the barracudas were swimming close to shore which added a sense of fear.

The Divi Divi restaurant was way too expensive, but the food was good. We ate every day at the best restaurant there, De Loco Gecko. For the price, the food was out of this world! Don't go to Breezes for lobster, unless you want to be overcharged for fish bait. De Loco Gecko was definitely the best place to eat.

3.0 stars Nice place to stay with some shortcomings. Visited: December 2001
Posted by stvnrdr
We had a wonderful time on St. Croix (our first time in the Caribbean) and the Divi was a nice place to stay, but it did have some shortcomings.

The hotel staff was quite friendly but some problems were never solved. For example, the safe in our room was broken and not repaired during the time we were there. Also, we never saw a bath robe, which was advertised as one of the perks.

The food was good and the service was fine, but it was quite expensive. We did not want to pay $10.50-$11.50 for a hamburger or cheeseburger at lunch. Also, only one restaurant at a time was open, which meant you would have to pay at least $100 for two people for a dinner in the nicer restaurant. The breakfasts were great, but the fruit definitely was not fresh.

The Divi was the hotel located the farthest from the airport. We ended up renting a car after we arrived because we did not like being so isolated--especially when we were looking for more reasonably priced restaurants (and yes, we did find them).

The beach was lovely but the dry grass was raked off only once during the time we were there.

2.0 stars Resort is fair but lacking in service, food and maintenance Visited: July 2001
Posted by dmay0
Divi is a fair resort in St. Croix, but lacks in the amenities that make a vacation relaxing and enjoyable. The rooms were fine, with a microwave and mini-fridge. The Caswell-Massey bath products were wonderful. We initially had to beg for room towels and never received the bath robes until the last day.

We were here during off-season and it was obvious. The Starlite restaurant was only open one night during our 6-night visit and fellow vacationers said the food was sub-par and very overpriced. The Ocean Terrace eatery was average at best. The service was very slow, and they constantly ran out of staples (chicken fingers, French fries).

At the restaurant, we oftentimes had to seat ourselves, retrieve our own menus and search for napkins and silverware. On a couple of nights they even tried to pawn off the Starlite menu at the Ocean Terrace, which was humorous. Whoever heard of paying $33 for sauceless pasta, tasteless chicken and a couple of bell pepper strips? We asked for the normally priced Ocean Terrrace menu and were told it wasn't available. We overheard Islanders commenting that there was new management at the resort and much of the staff had quit. That explained a lot.

This is the only resort that we have ever stayed at with no food or beverage service at the pool, we had to seek out and wait for the solo bartender to get a drink. I was also shocked that on Sundays, the pool is overrun by Island families on their day off. There are "hotel guests only" signs posted throughout, but none were enforced.

Another issue was maintenance. The resort is under 2-years old, but the newness has certainly worn off. We were surrounded by dead trees and overgrown plants, and the pool landscaping consisted of weeds and dead potted plants. Paint was peeling and sliding glass doors were filthy. The majority of nice pool lounge chairs were not usable (holes in the fabric) and uncomfortable hard plastic loungers were used throughout. Many could only be used lying flat, as the supports were all broken.

We have stayed at many Virgin Island resorts and while we thoroughly enjoyed the island, the resort was disappointing. We will not return to Divi. Many Islanders were aware of the service and food problems at Divi, we were not the first to comment negatively. I wish the resort luck, hopefully the revenues from the casino can be filtered into enhanced food and better maintenance at the hotel property!

5.0 stars A vacation in Paradise. Visited: July 2001

We stayed at the Divi Carina Bay for 10 days. We have never been to St. Croix and found the island to be one of the friendliest in the Caribbean. The hotel was beautiful.

The rooms were large and very clean, decorated in tropical decor. The room had a king-sized bed, white tile floors, microwave, ceiling fan, air conditioner, in-room safe, wet bar, and coffee maker, glasses, cups, mini refrigerator, hair dryer, terry cloth robes, beach towels, shampoo, lotion, sewing kit and coffee packets every day.

The staff was always helpful and friendly, and housekeeping was very efficient. All of the resort’s rooms were on the beach. There were wonderful trade winds at all times.

We rented a car. You will need it if you like to explore. They have a casino with nightly entertainment across the street. In every restaurant on the island that we ate in, we found the food to be very good and fairly priced. Only one was disappointing.

The hotels grounds were very tropical, and had beautiful flowers everywhere. It seemed quite safe to us, as we walked to the casino most every night and got nothing from passersby but a pleasant "goodnight”. We loved it and will return.

0.0 stars Decent hotel and pretty beach, but the service... Visited: May 2001
Posted by HersheySwt
The Divi Carina Bay Resort has a beautiful beach and the hotel is in a great location. The casino was definitely nice, and fun. The hotel was well laid out, but the service was mixed.

My friends and I received everything from very good service from the folks at Mile Mark Watersports on the beach to strange service from the front desk attendants. When my friends and I checked in, we found that we had not only been overcharged for our room, but that we were being given the wrong room entirely. The folks at the front desk seemed to be pretty clueless. They were really nice, but had to call a 'corporate office' to find out about the price issues. There wasn't a manager on hand to help with this issue, so we were forced to straighten it out on our own, during 'business hours', with the corporate office. I was glad that they were nice about the problem, but they seemed to know next to nothing about my room or how my reservation had come to be in the computer, or the prices. Because of that, they weren't able to be very helpful.

After getting to the rooms we found them cozy and relatively nice. They were definitely oversized, and I loved the little kitchenette! I didn't sleep well on the beds because they were not very firm, but it was still a cozy bed.

My friends and I loved the beach and the huge beach towels, which were definitely a bonus. The food for breakfast was average, although the fruit was definitely fresh (also a bonus).

Concerning the service—while the people were really nice downstairs at breakfast, service was definitely slow much of the time. The service in the Starlight Grille left much to be desired, and contained harried, distracted and sometimes rude waiters and hostess. With entrees that ranged from $20 - $40 on the average, we would have liked a little bit better service.

Other than this, we had a good time in St. Croix. The hotel is definitely pretty, and was a cozy place to stay. I would probably look for a different hotel on the island if I went back to St. Croix, but I didn't have a bad time at Divi Carina Bay. It was a good experience overall.

4.0 stars Superb facility on fantastic tropical island. Visited: March 2001

Divi has it all! It’s nice, bright and clean, with new rooms facing the Caribbean Sea. The
food and drinks are excellent! They also have plenty of beach and poolside activities and,
of course, the only casino in the Virgin Islands. It is a very nice casino with a restaurant
and a band playing nightly. Best of all it is on St. Croix, a laid-back uncommercialized
island with great places to sun, eat and shop.

We would give it five stars except some little things were just not there. The service was
at times poor and the bars seemed understaffed. We asked for a couple simple things in the
room like coffee and didn't get them, and one day there were no beach towels, etc. But
these were minor things that should not stop anyone from trying out this place--it was
great!

5.0 stars A truly rich, wonderful Caribbean experience. Visited: February 2001

The Divi Carina couldn't have been a better place to stay. It’s a brand-new hotel, unlike many of the worn down places. It was very, very clean, and the housekeeping was very friendly. They came by constantly to make up beds and stock towels. The rooms were beautiful. We’d wake up to the beautiful aqua green water! This resort was very classy and ritzy. Sandy Olsen was the orientation manager and she was very friendly and showed us around; we were just truly amazed with the facility. Don’t bring beach towels, theirs will be better than your own, and you can keep getting clean ones over and over. Each room had a mini-refrigerator so we went to the mini-market at the cafe and stocked up on sodas. The Schooner Bay Market was not overpriced.

Here, everywhere we went, the beach followed. The people that we met there were all very nice folks. The casino was something to do at night; this is where al the other guests on the island go anyway. It had a band and café inside. The two pools and Jacuzzis were a great place to meet other people or just be romantic.

We left our 5-month-old son at home with Grandma, but if we had known how safe and nice this place was, we would’ve brought them along. There were lots of little kids and babies, but also lots of just cuddly romantics like us.

Everything was great about this island and the resort. Bottom line is, yes you’re going to spend money, but it will be well spent! A top-class resort!
