Sugar Bay - A Place To Avoid Visited: February 2010 |
|
| Posted by tturow | |
| We stayed for seven (7) days, and quickly learned to eat elsewhere. The food was terrible, and grossly expensive. Additionally, their "Guest Services Manager" (I think it was Steve) never returns calls, never! We were locked out of our room by a faulty electronic lock... took three hours to get service. The property is very nice (that is the only thing good about the place), but my wife and I decided we will never stay there again. And we just saved our neighbors - they selected another hotel in St. Thomas. If we were paying 25% of what we paid I would have been annoyed, but this place is an outrage. I strongly suggest you avoid Sugar Bay. Didn't ruin the vacation, but certainly did nothing to enhance it. St. Thomas is a great destination, but Sugar Bay isn't. |

The good, the bad, and the ugly Visited: March 2010 |

| The Good- the restaurant is excellent! WAY overpriced but the food was wonderful and they do have a great wine list. The beach is beautiful and very secluded. Plenty of chairs to use and the harbor is calm for snorkeling and such. The Bad- The whole entire experience. The people were very unfriendly, the condo was as old as it could be, our air didn't work and they never did fix it. The bathroom was disgusting, the toilet wouldn't flush and I had to fix it myself! The Ugly- The cost of the rooms are outrageous. The hotel is at least 40 years old and I don't think it has been updated since it was built. I would not recommend this hotel at all |

Beutiful house on a lovely island Visited: February 2010 |

| Stayed at Casa Bougainvillea last week of February 2010 and had a fabulous time. House is lovely and spacious with a wonderful view of the islands, a pool and the beautiful blue waters right outside your door. Have stayed there before and plan to visit St. Thomas and stay at the same place many times. I call it a piece of paradise. Other than going to the grocery store, you don't have to leave the property. There is a barbeque grill, 5 bedrooms, TVs, games, books, etc. to keep you entertained. It's also close to restaurants and shopping. Can't wait until my next trip! The house is clean and very well maintained with all the amenities you could want. I highly recommend Casa B when you need to escape to a little piece of heaven! | |

Casa Bougainvillea had it all Visited: February 2009 |

| We completely enjoyed our stay at Casa Bougainvillea. The views of the cobalt blue and emerald green bay was absolutely spectacular. The property itself was gorgeous and meticulously maintained. The beach was steps away, and a coral reef lay just a few more steps from the shore. The snorkeling, swimming, sunning and walks were completely relaxing. I didn't want to leave... | |

| I've stayed at Casa-B six times and each time is better then the next! We usually never leave the property except to shop and occasionally go out to eat. Casa-B has everything, a huge great room with a huge balcony with multi-million dollar views, gorgous landscaping, a great pool and sandy beach with amazing snorkeling at your door. I wish I had Casa-B's kitchen at my house, we cook and barbeque, sit on the deck with good friends and drink. We're in our own little world, AMAZING! | |

| We had a great time. The place is fantastic. I didn't see another place you can walk from the road, jump in the pool or lay out on your own private beach. I would recommend this place to anyone who wants a great place to go with your whole family or a group of friends. | |

awesome beach/snorkeling/decent hotel Visited: February 2010 |

| We enjoyed our stay here. The beach is beautiful & great snorkeling! The ferries are about 5 minutes away and you can go to St. John for about $5.The resort only has one restaurant-it's not that great &the service can be slow. You pretty much need to go to Red Hook to eat & it's expensive, but good. If you climb to the top of the hill at the resort (more like Mt.) you can catch a safari ride that comes by often and it costs $1 or $2. It goes one way in a circle so if you want to go to Red Hook you'll probably want to take a cab back.If you stay on the safari ride past red hook you can go to a shopping area. If you go past that you can go all the way downtown. I enjoyed the safari, but if that's not for you you'd probably be best off getting a rental car. AVOID BUDGET RENTAL through the resort. The lady there is beyond rude!!! If you're expecting this hotel to be ritzy you will be disappointed. The bar at the pool is boarded up. The pool is nice and the beach is awesome. You can go snorkeling right off it. We liked our room but the bathroom could use remodeling. The one major complaint that I have is the people who serve the continental breakfeast are really rude! I had read some bad reviews and was nervous about the resort, but I ended up liking it.If you go to St. Thomas take a day trip over to St. John and visit the beautiful beaches. You can take a rental car over for about $49 and drive the entire Island in a day. We did not see any rats at all by the way! Just cats! |

| I wish I knew about this place last year when I visited! Me and my girlfriend took our anniversary trip to St. Thomas again this year and found this place online. Beautiful Views, Smiling faces, and amazing weather made our trip here enjoyable. If you want the best value for your buck, this is definitley your place. I would definitley recommend renting a car (remember to drive on left side :) | |

| BG Villa surpassed our expectations. Everything was high end, and no detail was overlooked. The location was ideal - right by the water, with a view of Chocolate Hole - about 10 minute drive to Cruz Bay. We loved it! | |

WOW! What a difference a year makes.... Visited: March 2010 |

| Last year, I was a first time renter at BBC, week #7. This year, I'm an owner of a 2BR Lock-Out, Hilltop Villa II, week #9. (Everyone should be so lucky.) I saw the opportunity to get in on a "Ground Floor" investment and feel my investment has already paid-off. I can't wait to see next years improvements. "I now have a great place in the Virgin Islands, St. Thomas, to vacation". BBC's improvements, especially to Hilltop Villas II, are better than I could imagine. The reopening of the pool bar/restaurant is a nice addition, good food/drinks at fair prices. The Cabana Bar/Restaurant 1/2 lb hamburger and onion rings are the best, with a very friendly staff too. The food at the "Room with a View" Restaurant was better than great. Their daily 5PM to 7PM "$5.00 Happy Hour" drink/food specials were unbelievable. The Reception Center Staff were polite and very helpful. The Housekeeping Staff, and supervisor, were very thoughtful. The addition of a full-time Activity Staff position was a great addition, very helpful andfriendly. I can't wait until next years visit. A big "Thank you" to our Board of Directors Presidents, Board Members and SPM. LARRY :) |

| If you want a relaxed atmosphere, great food and and to be treated like "royalty" then Mariotts Frenchmans Reef Resort is the place for you! We went on a "girlfriends" vacation to recharge from major work burn-out and we picked the right place. We booked an "all inclusive" package through a local travel agency. Our room had a great view of the bay, the island was beautiful and the weather is a constant 85 morning and night all year round. It was well worth it, everything was taken care of (meals, gratuity, and All drinks). We did tip our housekeeper, regular waitresses and bartenders (the service does improve, if that is possible) Be forwarned, local taxi's will take advantage of you, ask the price in advance, if you ask them to do a round trip price, only pay half at a time. If you get a chance to go, you wont be disappointed. | |

BEWARE OF BED BUGS! DIRTY COTTAGES Visited: February 2010 |
|
| Posted by arleenca28 | |
| Beware of Bed Bugs! When we arrived home from a 7 night stay at Chenay Bay Resort, my husband and I started itching with welts all over the back of our arms, legs and back. I previously read on Trip Advisor that a couple stayed at La Chenay and also received bed bug bites. If you read some reviews on Trip Advisor, other people have made comments about their stay at Chenay Bay. The comments warn travelers to bring bug spray as you will get eaten alive. But they are mistaken, there were no mosquitoes to be seen. The evening before we left, there was a lady at the pool with about 50 bites on her ankle. She thought they were mosquito bites. They are not mosquito bites, they are BED BUG BITES! Added to the horror of bed bugs, the mattress is hard, the 3 standards pillows are old and flat and the sheets are the texture of cheese cloth. I would not let my dog sleep on those pillows. The pillows should be thrown out, the mattress fumigated or encased in plastic. Pray you don't get cottage #14 as it definitely has several problems. We stayed the same week as the dissatisfied travelers from NJ. We also experienced a dirty cottage and we DID have to purchase cleaning supplies. I purchased bleach and dishwashing liquid, (which are not cheap in St. Croix) as the shower floor was moldy and slimly. After pouring 2/3 of a bottle of bleach and dishwashing liquid on the shower floor and let it set for 5 hours, the shower was still a bit funky, although we could now shower with relief that we would not come back home with toenail fungus. The toilet constantly ran and had hard water deposit stains in the bowl, the bathroom sink and faucet was full of spittle stains and water spots from the previous occupant. The shower curtain was nasty and covered in mold on the bottom. Little things like a missing toilet rod made the bathroom a huge disappointment. In the kitchen, the dishes were put away with grime, so I had to wash all the glassware and bowl. Yes, I said bowl, singular. The kitchen was supplied with only one cereal bowl, and only 2 coffee cups, 1 dirty mug, a few plates., two sauce pans that I used to boil water because the water line was broken during our stay. When it was turned back on the water was cloudy, hence it had to be boiled to make coffee. I wanted to call the front desk to find out when the water would be turned back on, but of course there was no phone service in the room as advertised. The phone never worked in our room and we had to use our cell phone and rack up roaming charges, or walk to the front desk and use their phone to make reservations, etc. About the front desk... There is woman who runs the front office who never introduced herself, and we did not ask her name. She never smiled and had a bad attitude when asked for extra towels, etc. It's like everything is too much trouble. "Now", is not in their vocabulary. This woman tolerates guests, she does not welcome them. There was only one server at breakfast named, "Evelyn". She was always pleasant and we did receive good service. She is a shinning star among lazy dregs. We were told by some time share owners that the property has experienced up grades like beds in the pool area, but I would not lay on them because they will probably be infested with bed bugs as I mention earlier. The owners of Chenay Bay need a serious awake up call and should stop allowing money to be spent on outdoor TV's and give some effort to basic maintenance in the cottages. Even the lounge chairs at the pool and on the beach are covered in mold. All they need to do is spray them with bleach to get them clean, but again that would take too much effort. We give this resort an A for location/view, but a D in maintenance and cleanliness making Chaney Bay a poor choice for our 10th wedding anniversary. Buyer Beware!! |

Great start to St. Thomas Visited: March 2010 |
|
| Posted by bryanbeats | |
| As a new resident to St. Thomas, my stay at Sunset Gardens will forever be memorable. Between the residents, the property owners and the property manager, I felt safe and comfortable. Between the community cook-outs by the pool, movie nights, and drinks at the 'internet cafe', I felt like I was at home. The walkways are well lit and the security cams are very visible. The staff is very polite and helpful when it comes to being new on the island. |

| St. Thomas is a tough island to move to without somebody who can guide you around the island. Moving to Sunset Gardens was the best start we could have hoped for. Before our arrival, we were in contact with the property manager who answered every single question we had. Once we arrived, she was an invaluable source of 'need to know information' to get us started here. The apartments were comfortable with a great view. Also, if we experienced any problems, the property manager was only a few steps away to sort anything out as we needed it. I would definitely recommend this complex as your first port of call on St. Thomas. |

Sunset Gardens boasts small town charm. Visited: February 2010 |

| I arrived on the island one bag short and no place to stay for my new adventure on St. Thomas. I had left my cushy apartment in Seattle for the island life and called Deb (the manager) on extremely short notice. I don't recommend doing this, but she accommodated me nicely. The rooms are nicely appointed with flat screen TVs and beautiful views of Crown Bay to Havensight. The AC units work well as do the ceiling fans on the cooler nights. The residents are very outgoing and helpful ,and if you ask nicely, they will even share their rum with you. I highly recommend Sunset Gardens and will be returning here when the need arises. |

Be prepared for a less than camping experience. Visited: February 2010 |
|
| Posted by michelle69 | |
| We expected to camp when coming. However, in my 16 years of camping I have never had an experience like this. We stayed a week, and they only thing that was cleaned was the kitchen everyone used. Elsa also failed to tell us that their water was cold, and she doesn't plan on fixing the water heater. I spent most of my time at Cinnamon Bay taking showers because they were so much cleaner and better. Money is not going in the right places for sure. We stayed in the Rain Tree two. When speaking with Elsa, I was informed that this would be a better choice for me since we were a couple and would like to have privacy. I was told the rooms were near the bathroom. However, we found out they were attached. We were awakened every night with people slamming the bathroom door and awakened by people doing their bathroom business. Yes, you hear everything in this room. Those who are camping in sites above also take a trail she created that goes right by the window. So you have people looking in every time they pass. When asked why we weren't told, Elsa said that was part of camping. However, before booking with her we were assured so many different things. If you want to stay in this area, I would highly recommend Cinnamon Bay Campgrounds. |

| We stayed two weeks in February. This is a nice villa overlooking Klein Bay with views looking toward Saint Croix. This is a good house for three couples, one with one or two children. The kitchen is well equipped, the pool is small but adequate, and the setting is quiet (although on a very steep driveway). The location is a ten-minute drive from Cruz Bay over rough and winding roads. The villa is adequately furnished, and the outside deck is especially nice. The outdoor showers are great, too. The beach is a very steep climb and is rocky, but has good snorkeling. There is a nice Weber BBQ grill - which we used often. We enjoyed the beautiful views and breezes, and would consider a return visit. |
