Virgin Islands Campground, St. Thomas, USVI traveler review

Perfect Relaxing Vacation Visited: February 2008
Posted by roamingtpa
Beyond what we expected for this quiet island off of St. Thomas. Staff was very accomodating and the eco-friendly cabins and bathouse were very clean and comfortable. Great views and plenty of time for quiet and quick trip for night life. We will be back.

Galleon House , St. Thomas, USVI traveler review

Never, ever, again... Visited: August 2008
Posted by alwyzabuckeye
One half of our volleyball group stayed here this past weekend and instead of a relaxing stay, they were robbed and harassed by the staff of this hotel. Upwards of $1200 worth of iPods, cameras, cash, clothing, and other electronics were stolen out of the room, which, conveniently was on the TOP floor and had no sign of forced entry. No other rooms were touched. Instead of offering help with this disturbing matter, the owners simply said "sorry" and then proceeded to accuse the men of making false statements. One employee even called another B&B owner (who happened to be hosting the other half of the group and is a personal friend) and made rude and defamatory remarks towards our entire group of travellers, even going so far as to accuse us of breaking into the honor bar, which we never even saw. Although they claim 'locked' entry ways and 'barbed wire' these are no where to be found. No discount was offered and the men had already paid the bill in full. Leaving this beautiful island with a bad taste in our mouths wasn't in our travel plans. We will come back to St. Thomas, but will never stay at this unprofessionally run hotel again.

Pelicans Path, St. Thomas, USVI traveler review

Renters Beware Visited: July 2008
Posted by welovestt
Renters BEWARE, they charged us an extra $200 for excessive water and electricity, when I asked how much electricity we used she advised that she had not received the bill yet!!! When I asked her why she can charge us when she does not know how much electricity we used she advised "it is at my discretion". We have been to St Thomas four times in the last eight years, we know how precious the resources are, and that is why we tried diligently to save water and electricity. She also charged us $20 for toilet paper, $20 to wash two dishes in the sink, $20 to move a clock downstairs, after we moved the clock upstairs as the clock there did not work. We were also charged another $100 for menial tasks. Not to mention that we were awakened every morning before 8am by construction workers working all around the property. Also the owners also live on the property and use the pool etc, therefore there is no privacy. They also expect you to wash the towels you use which means taking time out of your vacation to go to a Laundry mat which will cost you $20 per load
The owners were not willing to work with us, we paid $2000 for the week, so for them to keep the majority of our deposit left a bitter taste.

Sprat Hall Plantation, St. Croix, USVI traveler review

stayed there for 5 months in mid 70's
Posted by warrantseabeediver
We, a group of Navy Divers from Underwater Construction Team One stayed there and used it for our lodging, base of operations. We were working on a Navy Project offshore of Sandy Point. We supplied the Plantation with Queen Conch and went with them on their fresh seafood trips. We were treated very well the whole time and I want to bring my wife back to enjoy the hospitality of Sprat Hall.

We loved Magens Valley Inn! Visited: March 2008

If you're looking for a private little piece of paradise, with top notch service, consider staying at MVI. Steve and Leslie are your hosts, and they make the comfort and enjoyment of your stay a top priority. The downstairs apartment is a private retreat all its own with a completely equipped kitchen and beautiful decor throughout. The location is convenient to gorgeous Magens Bay, the town, and the St. John ferry, which worked out great for us. Steve's cooking is unbelievable, from breakfast to dinner on the deck, everything is fresh and delicious! Steve and Leslie are also very helpful with recommending things to do around the island, and are all around just great people. My fiance and I stayed here in March, it was the perfect romantic getaway. There was lots of privacy, and we're looking forward to coming back to this fabulous B&B!

Bluebeards Castle Hotel, St. Thomas, USVI traveler review

These were the worst accommodations ever. Visited: January 2008
Posted by travler
The staff was extremely rude, and the room was in horrible condition and filthy. I checked out the next morning. I would not recommend this place to anyone.

The only redeeming feature was the Banana Tree restaurant, which was not affiliated with the hotel. The staff and food were great there.

Eaglesnest, St. John, USVI traveler review

Eaglesnest - don't miss it! Visited: August 2008
Posted by jpd
We're a couple with two daughters. Eaglesnest is a perfect place to spend your vacation.

We spent a week here, and I don't know where to start!

The beaches were gorgeous. We swam with turtles, and saw a stingray and so many colors of fishes. It was really "white sand and blue waters".

Eaglesnest was close to many places - Cruz Bay, beaches, and the market.
In Eaglesnest, we felt comfortable (like at home) but with an amazing view and delicious nights spent on a deck chatting and watching the movies we made from the day.

There was also a very pleasant grill which allowed us to have great dinners on the porch.

Francis Bay Estate Villa, St. John, USVI traveler review

Francis Bay Estate Visited: August 2008
Posted by slivacz
A first class property, beautifully furnished and equipped. However, I would not rent it again in August for three key reasons: 1)Sheltered from prevailing winds by the hills it is very hot and humid at all times of the day. 2) It's buggy. Mosquitos and no-see-ums are always present. We could not stay outdoors without liberal applications of Off -- and our three grandchildren were still covered with bites.
3) Big drawback: The open plan great room/dining area has no air conditioning. All the overhead and floor fans could do is keep the 80 to 90 degree air moving a little. It is so hot the refrigerator and freezer really can't cope. Bottomline: this is an ideal property for Winter rental. The wonderful ensuite bedrooms offer great privacy. Although remote, it's close to the best beaches in the world. Despite the drawbacks we had a great family vacation.

Harmony Studios, St. John, USVI traveler review

Harmony makes up for creature comforts Maho does not provide Visited: August 2008
Posted by amf
Just got back from St. John...stayed 4 nights in a Harmony Studio. Fantastic... fridge and bathroom, and the balcony with its trees and resident birds, just a relaxing accomodation. Steps up to the Harmony Studio clusters is not that bad, really!! Access to Maho's bays and the Pavillion for excellent meals (did not need to turn on stove), the store for sandwiches for lunch, and even adequate wines was not that inconventient!
Staff were in general congenial and efficient except one or two who need to be taught to be better mannered.
Requests for taxis and tour operators were available even in short notice.
Response to two calls for 'maintenance' were instant, though they were not major disasters.
Harmony Studios have the best all-around-view....dawn to dusk, rain or shine... such a beautiful place to spend a few days of ones vacation. One can't miss the night creatures sounds that overwhelms the place... one can't help but appreciate it!!!!

Rendezvous Bay and Ditleff Point views were incredible. Snorkeling was fantastic, too. We'll be back!

Lavender Hill Suites, St. John, USVI traveler review

It was beautiful May 9th - 16th, 2008. Visited: May 2008
Posted by bostonmike
We actually stayed in unit 1W the same week as the previous review. This room was furthest away from the construction, and we knew that before we booked. We were here during some parts of the day while construction was going on, and found that it really wasn't that bad.

We spent some time on the wrap around deck even, and it didn't phase us too much. We also found at times that it actually ended at 4:00 pm, and a couple days around 6:00 pm.

Besides the construction, we visit St. John to enjoy the beauty that it offers - so there wasn't much time spent in the room during the day.

Lavender Hill was beautiful. 1W was very clean and comfortable. We really did feel at home. We can't wait until our next visit, and have already started the booking process.

Matt was very helpful and helped us out with anything we needed. The proximity of Lavender to the town was a very short two-minute walk. It was ideal for Happy Hour at the Beach Bar!

We strongly recommend Lavender Hill Suites for a stay on St. John. Besides the construction during parts of the days, this place was well worth the money and made our stay very enjoyable. On St. John walking distance is key.

We stayed at this beautiful place for 11 days. Our family loved it.

It had all the comforts of home. All we needed were our clothes and food. We used the hot tub every night, and it looked out over the beautiful sea.

We would highly recommend Casa Azure Villa.

Marriott Frenchman's Reef & Morning Star Beach Resort, St. Thomas, USVI traveler review

We had a wedding disaster at the Marriott! Visited: May 2008
Posted by bugaboo198273
My husband and I got married at this resort in May - after two years of planning, and many, many, many payments (as anyone who has ever married - or experienced St. Thomas inflation - can imagine). Though the island of St. Thomas is breathtakingly beautiful, and we had a lovely time outside the hotel, the Marriott Frenchman's Reef made a disaster of our wedding. I highly advise you not to get married here under any circumstances.

Our reception site wasn't ready when the wedding started, because of the Marriott's ineptitude. They made us hold the reception in a much smaller venue than we paid for (which was still filthy).

In addition, they "lost" the video footage of our wedding ceremony; they dragged my entire wedding party and I through iguana-feces-laden grass and destroyed our clothes and shoes; and they charged us twice for the wedding, resulting in several thousand dollars of overcharges on our credit card. During all these disasters, our wedding coordinator was "at lunch" and could not be located.

All in all, the Marriott staff's attitude, lack of professionalism, and nonchalance regarding the horrific state of the reception site and event itself are unforgivable. I would recommend that you get married elsewhere - unless you want to be severely overcharged and overstressed for a haphazard, sloppy wedding.

Ventana, St. Thomas, USVI traveler review

I'm sitting in Ventana now. Visited: August 2008
Posted by freitas
This is our last night at Ventana, and we had a wonderful stay.

We came to St. Thomas for our wedding, we were married on Magens Bay Beach 8/8/8, and hosted our reception at this spectacular villa.

The views are amazing. As beautiful as the pictures are, they will never capture the true beauty of this place.

I preferred to stay at the villa, as the driving and shopping when ships came in were not my favorite things to do. You will never want to leave the villa when you get here.

If you have to shop for food - you must go to Cost-u-less, it's basically Costco - but no membership required. However, they do not open until 9:00 am, so don't bother going any earlier. The other food stores are extremely pricy, and leave a lot to be desired.

Make sure you take a day to spend in St. John - you will have to ferry over, but it is well worth the trip. Trunk Bay has the best snorkeling. Ali, from Ali taxi, was really cool i(f you need a dependable open air taxi driver that accommodates a bunch of people).

The mosquitos have a feast some nights/days, so use the sprays in the cabinet on the patio. A lot of the shops only open while ships are docked, so you must do your shopping then, otherwise everything is closed.

We loved this villa, and hope you enjoy your stay. There's a guest book in the basket, which is a good read (and you can sign it as well).

Oh, and enjoy the attack rooster (at 5:00 am!).

Seacove Villa, St. John, USVI traveler review

Seacove boasts stunning views! Visited: July 2008
Posted by islandtime
We knew when we booked this trip that we were going to really enjoy it, but the pictures on the Internet did not do the house justice. This house was fabulous!

We took my in-laws for their 50th wedding anniversary - and they absolutely loved the house.

It had such a wonderful balcony with a fantastic view of Peter Bay and Cinnamon Bay. We spent a good portion of the evenings on the balcony with a drink in hand just watching the boats roll in and out. It was so relaxing, it was hard to leave.

Since getting back to the states, we have done nothing but try to figure out when we can get back there. If we didn’t have three small kids, we would probably be there right now.

I have already recommended this place to several co-workers, and we definitely plan on staying at Seacove Villa on our next visit to St. John.

Panache Villa, St. John, USVI traveler review

This was a great house with a great view. Visited: July 2008

Five of us stayed at the Panache Villa, and were all entranced by the lovely view.

At night, sitting on the deck looking up at the stars was wonderful with the cool breezes.

The house was super - older, but well maintained. Having AC throughout was important to us, but a couple of the wall units were more than noisy, and had the musty/damp smell.

This was our first time in St. John, and one week truly was not long enough to explore everything. They had excellent snorkeling!

Royal Palms Villa, St. Croix, USVI traveler review

It was a tropical paradise. Visited: June 2008
Posted by hankj
Our family had a wonderful week at Royal Palms Villa. The view from the pool and covered veranda were lovely. A couple of sand crabs came out to play with us while we were at the pool.

We felt at home with the spacious, well stocked kitchen that made it easy to prepare some meals in the villa. The separate bedrooms afforded us the opportunity to have quiet time and solitude when desired. The great room allowed for the family to gather and enjoy games, TV and reading.

The nearby beach at Buccaneer Bay was handy for a dip in the ocean, although the pool was so handy at the villa, we often just stayed there for our swimming enjoyment.

We saw a lot of lizards. The garden outside the lanai was a beautiful backdrop for photos. The whole place was so pretty, we decided to make a little video tour to remember it by.

Reef Bay View Villa, St. John, USVI traveler review

We had a spectacular stay at Reef Bay View. Visited: June 2008
Posted by gourmetgirl11
We were in St. John for ten glorious nights, and we stayed at Reef Bay View. We have stayed here many times, but since the house changed rental companies, we were really impressed with the cleanliness of the house.

We were welcomed with flowers in each room, and had a welcoming basket with coffee for our first morning.

This was a great house because of the views, the pool, and the hot tub. An additional plus was that we could walk down a path to Reef Bay beach and hike to the Petroglyphs!

We have rented many different houses in St. John, but once we came to Reef Bay View, we have always stayed here. We will rent this villa again and again as we value the feeling of privacy. It is always our vacation heaven!

Panache Villa, St. John, USVI traveler review

They had exceptional views. Visited: December 2007
Posted by autumnsong
Panache is an older, beautifully maintained villa that is very well equipped. Because of its age, it has a first class spot looking over Rendevous Bay.

It is difficult to find an all AC villa with a heated pool, but Panache has both. The bedrooms are just about equal. However, there is a one-bedroom with a little adjoining room (used for younger children) in the main house, which has a splendid great room with huge doors that open out to that terrific view.

The other bedrooms are across the veranda, and are in a separate building via staircases. They are very private from one another, but would not be suitable for young children (too far away). Teens or other couples would find the privacy a plus.

There is a self contained apartment under the pool deck via a staircase. The only drawback (at this date) was the dated little old TV in the great room. There was no cable while we were here. However, there was a DVD player. There were no TVs in any bedrooms, either.

The outdoor shower wasn't really outdoors. It just connected to a very narrow alley. Ask to have the pool heater started before you get there. It took a day to get comfortable, even though this is an all-day sundeck.

If this property had a hot tub and better TVs, I would rate it a "5". This our 19th trip to St. John.
