Sapphire Village Condominiums, St. Thomas, USVI traveler review

The Worst Hotel I have EVER stayed in Visited: November 2007
Posted by dicktracy
Upon entering my room I was shocked. I would be staying in a far from clean time share condominium with an odd smell. In the bathroom the water was leaking and the bottles of shampoo and conditioner were open, no doubt after use by the previous guests meaning that not only had they not been replaced, but that the bathroom had not been cleaned. I tried to relax only to find that the television remote was not working. I requested fresh batteries which came three hours later but did not solve the problem. Not a huge problem, but given everything that had already happened.

That evening as I settled into bed it quickly became clear to me that I was not sleeping in clean sheets. In fact I suspect that the hotel staff had simply made the bed after the last guests departure. What's more, the bed was so old that a spring was constantly poking me in the back.
The front desk staff could care less and nothing was done. The next morning I left the room as early as possibly and returned around 3:00 PM. As I looked into the bedroom I noticed that the sheets had not been changed, nor had the bed been made. I called the front desk and asked for clean sheets. I then went to dinner and returned a few hours later to find a garbage bag with sheets sitting on the dinning room table. I was informed that the rooms were only serviced every other day and that I would have to put the fresh sheets on the bed and make it myself.

Please do yourself a favor and do not ever stay here!!!

Secret Harbour Beach Resort, St. Thomas, USVI traveler review

Revier while staying here. Visited: July 2008

Okay, let me start off by saying trust no one here, they will rob you blind which is judging by the cabbie who charged is $100.00 for a $42.00 cab ride. I'm ranking the resort, for lack of a better word, a 1 star because the rooms are only okay, the service except for a few staff is horrible. If I could recommend you to run for the hills before staying at this place, I would. There are far to many places that are better, offer more and cost less than this place. Let's face it it I would rather stay at a prison in Abu Grab than this place. The maids didn't change the sheets for the entire 5 days I've been staying here, I know I'm a clear person but come on. The towels were re-used, gross. Then there comes the locals who frequent the bars in this resort who think the US residents are the worst. This old lady who writes for a local paper must be the worst. I don't recommend putting people to pasture but that old lady has it coming from both directions. I don't' recommend this resort to anyone short of a mental breakdown and someone who needs to get away from it all. There are other locations to stay at, local bar, local jail that have more life and hospitality than this place. Good Luck to anyone who ventures into this seeded place in the wall. Mark my words, you will be saying "that guy from Chicago was right, this place is a dump"......

Green Iguana Hotel, St. Thomas, USVI traveler review

Fantastic Visited: June 2008
Posted by teeandjerry
My husband and I spent 10 wonderful days on St.Thomas and staying at the Green Iguana just made the trip more enjoyable. This place is like a peaceful oasis. The courtyard is magnificantly "over-run" with all kinds of plants and trees and flowers. It is relaxing just to sit and listen to the " critters". Sue and Bud are like family members that go out of their way to make you comfortable. We highly recommend this lovely place and hope to get back there to enjoy more of the island atmosphere.

Casa Azure Villa, St. Thomas, USVI traveler review

Great place Visited: February 2008

We loved Casa Azure - beautiful views, great location, convenient to beaches and ferry to St. John. The one thing I would say is to know that it is really a 2 bedroom house with a separate one bedroom apartment (which was a little dingy). The 2 bedrooms upstairs were great though!

I have found my slice of heaven.

Ms. Alice and her crew keep the grounds immaculate. It's my second time at Sapphire, and first at Crystal Cove. I actually cancelled a reservation at Frenchmen's Reef to come back to Crystal Cove. I love it here!

I am going back in the fall, and my trip is already booked!

We've seen improvements over the years. Visited: May 2008
Posted by prllopez
We stayed here 30 years ago for our honeymoon when the hotel had wood rooms. Thirty years later, we've seen a lot of improvements.

The breakfast was excellent, and we felt the atmosphere we would feel at home

Its location was perfect for exploring the rest of the island. Martha and Sandy were very helpful in giving us tips as to what to do and see.

In addition, the rooms were simple, but very clean. The pool was very clean and nice, and the restaurant next door was pricey - but great.

This was a quiet, low key and relaxing place to stay in the heart of the old city. It was minutes from museums, restaurants, and shops.

Molly and Cheryl created an almost-home atmosphere.

I suggest you look elsewhere. Visited: June 2008
Posted by islandhopperz
First of all, it was very difficult to find. We drove by the road three times, but that was no big deal.

The "suite" (and I use that term loosely) was filthy, and smelled like cat urine. Also, the AC was not on and/or not working. The smell was atrocious, and since we booked through Travelocity (big mistake), it was extremetly difficult to change our reservation without losing all our money.

The rate of $295 a night was outrageous for what we were getting. We drove throught he Ritz Carlton, and wished we would have booked there - or at any "name" hotel.

This was a disaster - trust me. It reminded me of an old Caribbean rental unit by the beach. Sure, the view was great, but our sheets were dirty and old, and the water was yellow - and so on and so on.

They rate this a three-star, but it was way below that. I read the reviews mentioning it was "charming" and "Why are people complaining, it is the Caribbean?". I have stayed on a lot of islands, and hotels are not anything like this.

I will say that the manager was very helpful after we complained, and accommodated us with a different room that was better. Unfortunately, the damage was done.

If you want a great vacation, stay elsewhere.

We had a perfect week at Wyndham Sugar Bay. The room was clean, and had a perfect view of the ocean and St. John.

The food was good, and we had absolutely no problems with any of the staff. We are thinking of going back next May.

Green Iguana Hotel, St. Thomas, USVI traveler review

This hotel is a very smart choice. Visited: May 2008
Posted by thomcatt
My wife, stepdaughter and I enjoyed our 14-night stay at this hotel. I won't go overboard and say it's the best hotel in the world, even though I feel compelled.

What I will say is that all descriptions in my travel guides were on target. This hotel was very clean, and all around nice. We rented an efficiency (A-4). It helped having all cooking and eating utensils we needed. Also, the harbor view from our balcony was very beautiful.

If someone wants an affordable hotel with good security, this hotel is a very "smart" choice.

After visiting to St. Thomas, I'd not want a hotel downtown. This hotel's location on top of Blackbird's Hill was a better choice (safer, and more pretty). The walk downtown via 99 steps was very quick and easy.

The main reason someone should want to stay there is that both managers, Sue and Buddy, were every bit as friendly, warm and helpful as reported in the guides. We especially liked how they loaned us a cooler for use to go on picnics at the most beautiful beaches in the world.

My wife and stepdaughter loved the fact the managers gave them fresh bananas right off of the tree in their front yard. They were delicious.

Staying at the Green Iguana hotel was a very good choice.

Island Beachcomber Hotel, St. Thomas, USVI traveler review

It is not a bad deal for the price. Visited: May 2008
Posted by valueman
I arrived to St. Martin a day early, and just needed a place to crash prior to our week at the Marriott. Upon arrival, I asked a local police officer where was a good place to crash for the night where I could get value for my money. He suggested the Beachcomber Hotel, which was walking distance from the airport (about a half a mile).

Having no reservations (and no idea what to expect of discount hotel), I must admit I was pleasantly surprised. The staff was pleasant, the rooms were clean, the food at the restaurant was good, and the beach was very nice. My check out was at 11:00. However, there was no pressure for us to leave our room, so we stayed for a bit and hung out at the bar and had some appetizers.

I am rating the Beachcomber a "five" - not in comparison to the Marriott or the Ritz Carlton, but for the overall value for your money. St. Thomas is pretty pricy on tourists, and to spend only $150.00 (with tax) on a clean, beachfront room without a reservation is great.

Wyndham Sugar Bay Resort Spa, St. Thomas, USVI traveler review

We had terrible service. Visited: May 2008

The property is nice, and has some positives like the pool and spa. However, the service is the worst ever.

I could give dozens of examples, but basically we were treated like annoying instrusions all week - not like guests. An eye roll was a common answer to many simple questions like: "Is there a parking charge if we rent a car?".

It was really sad that the service ruined the trip for us.

The entire time we stayed here, the elevator closest to our room was down. Our room was not cleaned properly. There was sand on the floor and carpet; dust on the bathroom vanity; and not all correct towels were left. We also discovered a bug in the bed.

The spa was bad, too. I had my hair and makeup done for my wedding. What a waste of money! My hair was not curled enough, and it went flat in about 15 minutes. I didn't even make it to the wedding site.

Also, the make up job was not good. The person basically had me tell them what to do. What was the point? If they don't have the experience to choose the correct makeup for me, I should have just done it all myself.

In addition, I got a massage that was less than fantastic. I could hear all the noises outside the room, so I could not get relaxed.

The food was good, and the people and staff were friendly. However, I was not satisfied, and would not stay here again.

The room was kind of "Motel 6-ish" from the early 90s. However, the service and food were fantastic.

Aside from the sand fleas, the beach was beautiful!

We had an all-inclusive package, which covered drinks and all the food for five days. We were two adults and two children, and paid $5,000 (including flight from California to St. Thomas to New York back to California). It was a pretty good deal for the money we paid.

I would stay here again.

This is a great place to hang your hat while exploring the island of St. Thomas.

Our host, Glynn, came to pick us up at the airport. The vacation rental was clean, and had a kitchen, a view, and a pool. Glynn and Donna had great suggestions on things to do, too.

I would definitely stay here again.

This large, two-bedroom apartment is the perfect place to hang your hat on the island of St. Thomas.

The owners met us at the airport, and showed us to our place. There was a swimming pool, and a full kitchen so we saved money by not eating out every meal. Also, the views were wonderful.

The owners couldn't have been more helpful. We will return again and again.

Bunker Hill Hotel, St. Thomas, USVI traveler review

The staff is friendly, but... Visited: May 2008

We were quoted $98 a night per room. When we paid, we found out that we were charged $15 a night for occupants three and four in each room per night - even though there were two double beds in each room. So, at $128 a night, we could have gone to a resort with beach access.

It seemed like it was in a shady neighborhood. It was a run-down inn with lots of steps. What appeared to be drug paraphernalia littered the street.

Also, our hairdryer did not work in one room, and the sheets were dirty in the other room. We lost electricity two times in three days.

In addition, one pool could not be used, and there was a strict rationing on breakfast... refill on coffee was not allowed.

I had a really great time staying on Water Island. The campground had great accommodations, and the people were very friendly.

The island was very quiet, and geared toward relaxation, but it was not hard to catch the ferry to St. Thomas or St. John if you want a little more excitement for the day.

I highly recommend the Virgin Islands Campground.
