While in Lahaina, Maui, I stayed at the Garden Gate Inn.
This bed and breakfast inn was better than any five-star hotel. The staff was unbelievable, and so friendly. It was the best stay I ever had at any hotel, and would highly recommend it to anyone. |

I have stayed here on two separate visits, and both times had a wonderful time. The innkeepers, Bill and Jaime, were incredibly kind, as well. Also, the location was great, and so was breakfast! |

We found that the website and owners were misleading regarding rooms.
We thought it was very unprofessional. I recommend you take extra time to find similar places/price. I think you can do much better. |

We went to Hawaii for a friend's wedding -- it was our first time in Hawaii and our first time at a B&B. First, we were disappointed with the way the place looks -- the pictures are deciving. All of the shots that you see of the beach are not from this place, this place is NOT on the beach, and looks more like a motel than a B&B. The hosts were rude and unprofessional. Too long a story to explain here, but we had a really big problem with them and we ended up so unhappy that we didn't stay for the whole time we paid for. When we got back we made a complaint to the BBB but they stuck to their guns and we never got a refund. They knew the BBB couldn't really enforce anything. We tried all different things because we were so upset with what they got away with. It bothered us for a long time, but we ended up letting it go. It was worth the $ we double spent to go somewhere where we felt comfortable and in nice surroundings (this was the Marriott). I know it's sometimes hard to trust what you read in reviews, but trust me, you don't want to stay here. I am going to find as many websites as I can and post this review because I truly don't understand how these people are in business. |

Beware of the Garden Gate Bed and Breakfast. You simply cannot be sure of what you are getting when you place your reservation.
We reserved the large suite and paid in full a month in advance. When we arrived, we were hurried into a postage stamp sized "standard" room, with the explanation that there was a "mix-up". We received no apology or offer of a refund. Since there were only two other guests on site, it didn't take long to figure out there was no mix-up. (Guests at a bed and breakfasts like to talk to each other!)
We had to fight to get a refund, and even then it wasn't a full refund of the difference. The propreitor used the excuse it was high season, although everywhere else in the industry it was considered the start of mid-season in Hawaii.
The view of the ocean wasn't what the web site promised. To be fair ... the room was clean and tidy. Breakfast was tasty, although modest. |

We are excited about our vacation in Hawaii. We stayed in a hotel while we were in Oahu and thought that a B&B would give us a homely feeling. So we decided to find a B&B in Maui and enjoy our vacation.
The first time we went there, we were so disappointed. The place is tiny and the ocean view is not as great as the website described. Our room was tiny, but it was okay, at least it was clean.
We hoped to be welcome warmly, but it was not what we expected. The hostess showed us the room and left. She told us that because we downgraded our room, she would give us a refund. However, we never got the refund back. We tried to call or e-mail several times, but she ignored us.
During breakfast hour, we were left alone in the garden with foods from a low price chain store. We hardly saw our host. Maybe staying in hotel is better than a B&B, especially since we paid a higher price here.
I don't know why people recommend this place. This was not my vision of a B&B. I didn't feel comfortable staying here and I wouldn't recommend anyone to stay here either. |
