A haven or rest, healing, and rejuvenation. Visited: April 2004

Mention the Volcano Teapot Cottage, and I can be ready to go in an instant! As a matter of fact, I been there four times in the past four and a half years. I can't believe it took me over 25 years of vacationing in Hawaii to find it!

Each time I have come here, whether traveling with my husband (twice), an ill friend recovering from chemo and radiation treatments, or my 18 year old daughter, I have found the cottage to be as cozy and inviting as my morning cup of coffee and crossword.

The owners, Bill and Antoinette, have appointed the cottage with loving care. One can spend several days exploring the nooks and crannies of the bungalow to discover yet another amenity placed there for the guests. What a delight.

While travelers are out sightseeing or hiking each day, the innkeepers stop by with a delivery of freshly baked breakfast fare and fruit. Their attention to the safety, comfort, and privacy of those staying at the cottage is beyond compare.

In addition to the impeccable cleanliness of the cottage, the grounds are equally as well maintained. The verdant gardens and maze of mini-trails in the forested area of the property are delightful with amusing garden art tucked here, there, and yonder. The combined ambience of the garden pond and relaxing atmosphere of the gazebo spa will soothe not only tired soles but tired souls as well.

Having stayed at literally dozens of hotels, motels, B & Bs, lodges, and inns over the years - even a castle in Ireland - I have found nothing that can compare to the uniqueness of the Volcano Teapot Cottage. A placard on the wall of the cottage reads, "I do not understand how anyone can live without one small place of enchantment to turn to". Indeed.

Peeping Tom Cottage Visited: November 2002

In November of last year, my wife and I had the misfortune of staying at the Volcano Teapot Cottage. It started with the owner Bill stating that we would have absolute privacy while there. The cottage was beautiful, everything we had imagined. The problems started around 12:00am when my wife and I were out in the hot tub, when we kept hearing noises in the back of the building. We were a little concerned that someone was there, so we put on our cloths and went inside. At this time we went into the cottage and picked up where we left off doing what all honeymooners do. I put the back porch light on for comfort reasons, as this place is in the middle of nowhere. At 1:00am as I was just about to fall asleep, when I looked and saw that the porch light was now off. At this time I heard footsteps outside and began to worry. Then I saw a figure pass by the walk way lights on the bedroom wall. I new someone was there at this time! I stood up on the bed to look out, and in shock, I saw a figure knelt down at the foot of our window at the bottom of the steps. In shock I yelled at this person, and then he stood up scaring the living hell out of me and mumbled what I made out to be my name and ran off. At this time I presumed it was Bill the owner.

The next morning I called him to explain his actions, and at this time he began to yell at me for wasting his electricity. He said he was on his way home, saw the lights on and thought he would turn them off for us. He had to come inside with a key to do this as the light switch is inside. He was yelling so loud at me on the phone, that my wife, who was in a state of shock, could hear him from the couch she was sitting on. At this time we wanted to leave. We requested that they refund our money so we could make other accommodations. He then brought our money, minus one-nights stay. I had to threaten to call the police and file a report to get our money back. I then called his wife to tell her of her husband's actions, and to my disbelief, she was just as uncaring as he. They were actually mad at us! They ruined our honeymoon that we saved so long and hard for, as we are a young couple with not a lot of money. My wife was traumatized over the whole invasion of privacy, and never recovered during the rest of our stay in Hawaii! And she is a very strong individual. I am sorry that I did not report him to the police. To this day it angers me to no end.
