We experienced excellence at the Hyatt Regency. Visited: May 2005
Posted by steven_zeiler
My wife and I had the pleasure of staying at the Hyatt Regency Kauai from May 8 to May 15, 2005. Without doubt, the Hyatt represented the best hotel/resort in which we have vacationed.

To qualify our remarks, my wife and I are 30 years of age and have had the opportunity to stay in several nice resorts in the western hemisphere - including in Las Vegas, San Diego, Florida, Mexico, and the Bahamas.

The reasons for the positive assessment are threefold. First, the Hyatt grounds are the most beautiful we have ever seen. The man-made landscaping is a perfect complement to the natural beauty. The restaurants, pools, spa, cabanas, and waterfalls are all perfectly integrated into the scenery. The website pictures do not do the grounds justice.

Second, the quality of the hotel itself is superb. Often, hotels in humid climates show excessive wear and tear. However, The Hyatt is beautifully maintained, and the rooms (even standard rooms) are luxurious.

Third, the staff bends over backwards to make guests' stay comfortable. Whatever can be done, the staff does – and with a smile. They realize you are paying top dollar and want to make sure you get your money’s worth.

In many of the online reviews, people write about the various problems they have had. It seems to me that no matter where or when you vacation, you will encounter a problem (nothing is perfect). The key is how well the staff deals with the problem. The Hyatt is always at the top of their game to help when an infrequent problem arises.

In closing our review, we comment on the one dreadful factor surrounding the Hyatt: Price. Several people in private and online have questioned if the cost of the Hyatt is worth it. We answer with a resounding "yes".

My wife and I visited many of the popular hotels on Kauai during our vacation – none of which possessed the awesome beauty and island feel of the Hyatt. Not even the Princeville Resort could compare (too stuffy – felt too much like the Belagio and not an island hotel). Also, the Hyatt offers the three amenities mentioned in the preceding paragraph.

Finally, the Hyatt offers many free/low cost forms of entertainment. For example, every night, they offer a free-to-attend torch lighting ceremony accompanied by Hawaiian music. My wife and I bought our liquor and stored it in the provided refrigerator to avoid paying the $7.95 a drink. We also enjoyed the grounds as a highlight of our vacation.

We should be so lucky so as to vacation at the Hyatt Regency Kauai again.

It was beautiful...but we weren't blown away. Visited: October 2004

We stayed at the Hyatt on the second week of our two-week honeymoon to Hawaii. We had stayed at the Westin in Maui first, and I think we may have been spoiled!

The Hyatt was beautiful..no question. The lobby and design were lovely. However, upon arrival, our valet parker asked us to pull the car over to a parking spot. I said (hey, I am from NY), "Wait...aren't you the valet?" He didn't seem phased at all and waved us on. Then, our room wasn't ready when we got to the front desk. They did give us two complementary drink vouchers, but still, these two things made our arrival less than idyllic.

We lucked out and had a room that was about a one-minute walk to the lobby. The room was a decent size for a deluxe oceanfront. It was very clean, and the staff was friendly enough, but again, not as friendly as we'd experienced in Maui.

The restaurants were outstanding. If you go to the Italian place, Dondero's, you must get the baked clams. Tidepools was lovely, as well. Of course, all of the dinners we had cost us at least $150.00, but that included a bottle of wine. You don't go to Hawaii looking to save money. One of our favorite things was the Stevensen's Library bar that was open until midnight and had live music every night. That was always a lot of fun.

The breakfast buffet got rave reviews, but again...we thought, 'Eh...' compared to what we had at the Westin in Maui. Don't get me wrong, it was good, but not great.

I gave four stars because it was beautiful, we had a good time, and it was a great place. Maybe if we had come here first instead of Maui, my review would be different, but that's how I feel.

This is the best resort on Kauai. Visited: May 2004

My husband and I stayed here for seven days on our honeymoon.

When we walked into the lobby of the Hyatt, we were amazed at the gorgeous view of the Pacific. Most of the hotel lobby was outdoors and had beautiful panoramic views of the blue ocean.

There were four freeform pools with waterfalls, jacuzzis, and two outdoor pool cafes (not a swim up). Service here was absolutely excellent and the staff was willing to get us whatever we desired and the concierge was very helpful, too.

My only gripe was that the hotel was so large, that it was literally a ten-minute walk back to our room. Although this does not sound like a long walk, it really was when we wanted to take a break from the pool and lie down. But, the ocean front view made up for that!

They upgraded us for free when we got there. The ANARA Spa was amazing! You must go and treat yourself to a day. I've been to many spas, and this may be the best so far.

There was not much to do on the island. All the restaurants in the Hyatt closed relatively early. The buffet breakfast was five star! I recommend this highly.

Also, the views were terrific, there were black swans swimming up to us. There was anything imaginable to eat. There was really no beach here, though. It was very rocky and not meant for swimming or lying out. But, most of Kauai was like that. Go to Maui for white sand beaches in my opinion.

The rooms at Hyatt were good, and the beds were great! The size of the room wasjust okay, though. I have seen better rooms. I recommend this hotel - definitely!

Kauai's Hyatt Resort and Spa was one of the nicest resorts I've been to on the island.

The staff was very professional, and the spa therapists were unbelievable. Also, the restaurants and atmosphere were fantastic. They were luxurious and well maintained.

It was a beautiful resort and spa to get away, relax and unwind. I highly recommend checking this one out.

We've stayed at the Hyatt twice and both times have hated to leave this paradise.

The grounds were stunning. The foliage was beautiful and well mantained. The rooms were undergoing a soft renovation and should be completed by spring 2004. The bathrooms were well appointed. I loved the fact that they had free laundry facilites.

The only downside was that the property was huge! We had an oceanview room on our last stay and it took a good ten minutes to walk to the room. But, the plus side to the room location was that it was very quiet.

They also had excellent restaurants. The pools were fantastic and the saltwater lagoon was unforgettable.

Service is Slipping but the Pool is Amazing Visited: July 2003

If you want to stay at a resort the entire time you are in Kauai, the Hyatt is the place to stay. I loved the pool areas and could splash around all day in the salt-water lagoon. The grounds are spectacular and flowers are everywhere.

However, the service at the Hyatt is below par from what I expect of a 5 star hotel. We reserved a room with a king size bed and was given a room with 2 queens instead. We were told we'd be given the next king bed availability but that never happened. At least we were upgraded to a partial ocean view which overlooked the pool area & if you leaned over really far and stuck your head out over the balcony railing, you could see the ocean.

We stayed at the Radisson in Lihue for 4 nights and the Hyatt for 5 nights. Next time I would stay at the Hyatt for only 2 nights, the rest of the time I'd stay at the Radisson which is in a much better location and frankly has much more personalized and attentive service. It's not worth it to stay at the Hyatt for any longer than if are going to explore the island as you won't be around the hotel long enough to enjoy the amenities. Spend your money elsewhere if you plan to sightsee.

The maid service was sloppy, the waitresses were slow and inattentive. The Hyatt has gotten complacent after all these years. Service is what sets a 5 star hotel apart from the others.

What a gorgeous hotel! No wonder it's one of the highest rated ones in the entire world. Everything is magnificent, particularly the lobby and pool. There's a reason it looks like it cost $250 million to build--it did! If you go, don't miss exploring the very different beaches running east and west beyond the property.

Kauai is one place worth going to! We stayed at the Hyatt Kauai for our honeymoon and received nothing but the best from the staff. Everyone was courteous and helpful.

It was quiet and secluded - just dreamy! Also, the food was excellent (the best sushi I ever had!) I can't wait to go again!

Although the public spaces were extremely nice and Kauai is absolutely amazing, we found the rooms to be in need of serious updating. We also found the service to be mediocre. I submitted a reply card to management and I still have heard nothing as of November 2002.

The Hyatt is luxury plus! Visited: February 2002

We stayed for one week, the other week on the opposite shore in Princeville. Comparing the two, the area surrounding the Hyatt had more places to explore and, because it was sunnier, we spent more time on the beach.

We relied on one good guidebook, Kauai Trailblazer, for finding our way around the island. It was recommended by the hotel's concierge. The staff was extremely friendly. Don't miss the Illima Terrace brunch.

My husband and I went here for our honeymoon in 2000. We loved it so much that we did a repeat in 2001.

An experience at the Hyatt will definitely be forever memorable. It's the most beautiful place and the service was amazing. We loved it so much that we're planning another trip this year!

I've quite a few places in my life and I have yet to find a place that is as beautiful as this. There are not words to describe how nice it is. The pool area and gardens are unbelievable! It is located on one of the world’s most beautiful beaches. Everyone needs to go at least once!

This is the nicest resort I have ever seen. It offers everything you want in a vacation. The grounds are landscaped beautifully, the restaurant is romantic, the pools are vast and offer many choices for sunbathing. The beach is private, yet active. The rooms are generous and the hallways and furniture just feel first class. The sunset views from the lobby/paito lounge are beautiful. Popular areas and activities are very close by. Even one night at this resort is a worthwhile treat. My teenage children thought it was so great that they wrote us an unexpected thank you when we got home.

We can't begin to describe how amazing this place is. My husband and I stayed here for two weeks for our honeymoon. The staff were super friendly, and the hotel facilities were immaculate and gorgeous. The hotel was surrounded by lush tropical gardens, flowing waterfalls everywhere and exotic birds. We were scheduled to go to Maui for a week;we went and immediately flew back to Kauai. Doesn't that say it all? It is hard to imagine vacationing anywhere else.

The Hyatt definitely has the best landscaped ground. The pool is very large, but private. There are little coves to get lost in.

The breakfast came with my room, and the service and food at the restaurants were very good. The rooms were very large and comfortable. I've never been to a prettier resort! The boat trip to the Na Pali coastline is breathtaking.

We are going back next year because we loved it so much! Also, the beach was beautiful and it was fun watching people dive off of the cliffs. We had a great time on our horseback ride and beach picnic. They took us to a secret beach and we saw a seal swimming to shore. We just had the time of our lives!

I celebrated my 30th birthday at the Hyatt Kauai and couldn't have wished to be anywhere else. The hotel was breathtakingly beautiful, with stunning views across the Pacific and surrounding mountains. The staff were beyond compare; superb service, yet never too formal. The food was delicious - we ate in most of the Hyatt's wonderful restaurants & each time seemed to surpass the previous experience.

The rooms were luxurious, with every conceivable need taken care of.

If I could go back to Kauai tomorrow, I would definitely stay at the Hyatt again.
