I suggest you avoid Maui Sunset at all costs. Visited: October 2005 Posted by lakemissy We were very disappointed with the unit in which we stayed, 208A. The walls were dirty, damaged and dinged, needing lots of refurbishing. The master bath had a hole in the ceiling with lots of mold growing around it. The tub had a poorly repaired hole in it. The bed in the master bedroom is in front of a patio door that has light window coverings. There was also a light outside the window, so at night it seemed like the middle of the day. We eventually hung dark sheets over the door so the room became a little darker, making for better sleep. In addition, when we arrived, we found gray looking towels with makeup stains and had to buy laundry detergent to wash them before we could use them. The grounds were in good condition except for the horrendous odor from the ocean vegetation that accumulated on the very narrow beach. While we were here, we found out that a discharge ditch drained nasty, nutrient-filled water into the area, and that fertilized the algae and seaweed. We’ve had many tropical vacations but have never smelled anything this bad. Some days spending any time at the pool or tennis courts was impossible because of the stench. We enjoyed the island of Maui, but would never return to Maui Sunset because of the condition of the unit and the unusable beach.
