It was a relaxing, worry free stay! Visited: September 2007

Last September, my girlfriend and I decided to take a trip to Hawaii.

The property was amazing. With the lush vegetation and the ocean views, it was hard not to feel like we were truly in paradise.

The hotel amenities were all top notch, and the service far exceeded both of our expectations. Being the forgetful person I tend to be sometimes, I forgot to pack my swim trunks. When the concierge overheard us talking about it and how we had to rush to make dinner reservations, she offered to purchase a pair for me while we were out.

Of course, they would have billed it to my room charges, but this just shows the dedication for excellence on part of their hospitality staff. I was very impressed! Though I did not take them up on their offer, it was nice to know that they were willing to go out of their way to make my stay as worry free as possible.

Thanks Hilton Waikoloa staff!

There were lots of things to do. Visited: October 2006

We really enjoyed this resort as there were a lot of things to do right on the property. The lagoon and all the pools/slides gave lots of variety. The dolphin encounter was amazing.

We enjoyed the supper meals - especially KPC, but also enjoyed the lauau and Donatonis. We found the lunches a little expensive.

Also, the people who booked the tours and things were very helpful.

I felt cheated. Visited: September 2005

I stayed at the Hilton Waikoloa that I booked through a travel company.

My complaint involves the agents at the check-in counter and the room as advertised. I paid extra to have a golf view. I could not see a golf course from my room, it was more of a "garden type" of view. I was informed when I got to the hotel (at 5:00 pm) that my room was not ready yet (and I guessed I was lucky to even get a room at all).

Then I got a lot of noise from some birds that nested right outside my front door. It was very, very loud tropical birds that made conversations impossible. When I told the clerk, I recieved apathy. She told me she could hear the birds, too (not true, you can only hear those birds like I did when I was at my room). It was the highest concentration of the noise there.

If this is how they serve people on their vacations, I may have to find another place. Marriots have been contacting me. And based on how they deal with this complaint of apathy, misrepresentation and no respect, I may just take my vacation with Marriot.

We were disappointed. Visited: August 2003

Although the views at this hotel were exceptional, our overall stay was somewhat disappointing. First of all, we could not be given an oceanview room, which we had asked for. Secondly, we did not get the two double beds that we had requested. Our children are 6 and 8, and had to squeeze together on a pullout chair. Thirdly, (our worst complaint) was the awful stench in the hall outside of our room. We never did figure out what it was!

We definitely felt like a number at this resort. We were given poor instructions to find our room and had to ask twice how to get there from the front desk. A place this large really should escort you to your room! The food was disappointing, especially at Donatoni's.

All in all, this is the least enjoyable hotel we have ever stayed at in the islands. Do keep in mind the views and grounds are excellent and may make-up for the shortcomings for some visitors.

The Hilton is very kid-friendly. Visited: April 2003

If you're looking for a "family" vacation, this is the place to stay in Hawaii. We found it to be too big and too crowded to really relax, though.

Although the property itself was very nice, the difficulty of taking trams, boats or walking a great distance to our room became aggravating.

As mentioned in the previous reviews, the restaurants were pricy and, truthfully, not very good. We ate at Donotonis looking forward to a great meal, but left disappointed.

We had a two-room ocenview suite which was very nice, but the other rooms were just adequate. As stated, if you want to take the kids somewhere to play, this is the place.

The Hilton Waikoloa Village is truly a wonder. Visited: April 2003

We stayed at the Hilton Waikoloa for six nights in April 2003. I had read a lot of reviews on it, and they varied from five stars to one star. The detractors felt it was too "Disneylandish".

I would rate it as five stars. How else would you rate a place that, when you took a walk in the afternoon, you saw sea turtles in the lagoon (three to be exact), watched them supplement a mother Dolphin's milk to her six-week-old baby (the handlers explained to us what was going on) and then saw at least six whales as they left Hawaii for Alaska?

Add to that a wonderful "musuem walk" with seven million dollars worth of Asian art, relaxing motor boats taking you around the resort (they also had a monorail, but I wasn't crazy about it), and beautiful rooms and views.

The food was the only weak spot in the Hilton, and in fact, for the area we were at. All in all, this was a great hotel.

An excellent accommodation - especially for guests with kids. Visited: March 2003

I agree that this place may not be the most romantic place if you want some isolation. However, it is a gorgeous bay setting. And once you adjust yourself to the slower pace of Hawaiian living, the expanse of the resort probaly will not put off most people.

The Hilton Waikoloa resort was huge, but we were treated very well by the staff. My wife, our three-year-old son and I enjoyed the ten-minute boat ride from the Lagoon Tower to the delicious breakfast brunch at the Ocean Tower almost every morning - daily breakfast buffet was included in our package.

And I would recommend the valet parking - especially with kids - since the walk to the parking lot is a bit long after the journey to the main lobby from your room no matter which tower you stay.

The pools were great, especially the kiddie pool with the sandy bottom. And watching the dolphins was fun even though we did not participate in the hands-on dolphin experience available to some lucky guests.

The resort had a man-made lagoon with a beach, but you should travel down the road about half a mile to the closest ocean beach, beautiful Anaehoomalu Beach, it was well worth the trip. The waters were calm when we visited, it was great for our son.

This Hilton is an outstanding resort. Visited: September 2002

We would consider this Hilton on the plus side of four stars. The layout and beauty of this place are outstanding. The transportation within the resort is easy and interesting - whether walking or riding in the adorable boats or the cool trains.

The rooms are better than average. The spa and restaurants are on the pricy side, but there are many good things to do whether you want activity or left alone.

It was Disneyland in Hawaii. Visited: September 2002

This hotel was a great place to bring the whole family and kids. We would definitely go back here if we had kids. But we were looking for something more romantic, and this hotel just was not it.

This is a beautiful resort that is great with kids. Visited: July 2002

This resort is the perfect place to stay with kids. There is so much to do, they never get bored. And, you can just relax and let them have fun.

The dolphin experience (on the resort) is a must! The water slides are great and the lagoon has several turtles to snorkle with. I highly recommend this resort for families.
