La Casita Villa, Beacon Hill (Dutch side) traveler review

It was incredible! Visited: February 2007
Posted by coloradoblueskies
We had a wonderful experience - the private pool, private home is worth every penny! It was far enough away from the airport - where the only noise was the ocean. It was closer to the south end of the island than other rentals.

If you want quiet and lack of crowds, this is your place. Wake up, take a swim, have your own breakfast, visit the sites, then unwind in the pool, watch the sun set ~ call it a night or head out to the local nightlife ~ your choice.

The local grocery was very close. Also, the housekeeper service was outstanding.

Wireless or internet access would be helpful - but on you're on vacation, right? Internet was available at a couple of restaurants/bars where we were able to check on business.

We've never gone to the same place twice, and we've already reserved again for 2009. You can't say more than that!

Hilton Waikoloa Village, Beacon Hill (Dutch side) traveler review

It was a relaxing, worry free stay! Visited: September 2007
Posted by tsmith36
Last September, my girlfriend and I decided to take a trip to Hawaii.

The property was amazing. With the lush vegetation and the ocean views, it was hard not to feel like we were truly in paradise.

The hotel amenities were all top notch, and the service far exceeded both of our expectations. Being the forgetful person I tend to be sometimes, I forgot to pack my swim trunks. When the concierge overheard us talking about it and how we had to rush to make dinner reservations, she offered to purchase a pair for me while we were out.

Of course, they would have billed it to my room charges, but this just shows the dedication for excellence on part of their hospitality staff. I was very impressed! Though I did not take them up on their offer, it was nice to know that they were willing to go out of their way to make my stay as worry free as possible.

Thanks Hilton Waikoloa staff!

Garden Gate Inn, Beacon Hill (Dutch side) traveler review

I enjoyed my stay at Garden Gate Inn. Visited: January 2008

While in Lahaina, Maui, I stayed at the Garden Gate Inn.

This bed and breakfast inn was better than any five-star hotel. The staff was unbelievable, and so friendly. It was the best stay I ever had at any hotel, and would highly recommend it to anyone.

King Kamehameha's Kona Beach Hotel, Beacon Hill (Dutch side) traveler review

You may want to stay elsewhere. Visited: October 2007

We stayed here in order to have a good vantage point to watch the start and end of the Ironman competition. For that, this hotel was perfect. However, if you are looking for amenities, comfort, or service - stay away!

Our original rooms (booked a year in advance) were unavailable due to the air conditioning in them supposedly being out. No matter, the new rooms assigned to us also had no air conditioning, and we could not get our room under 80 degrees the whole week we were here.

The hallway of the floor had a huge gap where an ice machine had been. This gap was leaking water, and during our stay the hallway rug eventually became soaked and smelled musty. Also, our toilet leaked, and the repair was fixed by wrapping a towel around it.

The room itself was pretty drab, and smelled musty - which was really only bearable to be in during sleep time.

None of the restaurants on property were open the whole week we were here - except for the outside Billfish Bar. This bar served sub-standard pub food at outrageous prices, and the quality left a lot to be desired.

The pool and spa adjacent to the bar were nice and were kept clean the whole time we were here.

The luau was done nicely. It was very entertaining, and the food was very good and offered a few local fares. The show was fairly long, and the entertainers were engaging and fun. However, the free drinks quickly disappeared earlier than advertised.

The hotel had a nice beach as well, and easy access to a lot of the activites such as fishing, surfing, and snorkeling.

The service was okay. There were a lot of excuses for things being out of sort due to the Ironman. However, I think one can only blame so many things on an event that is there once a year.

All in all, I would stay away.

Faja Lobie, Beacon Hill (Dutch side) traveler review

I can't wait to go back. Visited: May 2006
Posted by muncy2219
We stayed with friends of ours, and we can't wait to go back.

Everything we needed was close by, and the view was wonderful. The beaches were only minutes away and they were beautiful. The weather was 85 and sunny the whole time we were here, and the staff was available when we needed them.

The airport noise did not bother us at all, and the pool was refreshing when we were laying out on the deck.

We are already talking about when we'll go back.

This was a beautiful villa, and I had a wonderful experience! Visited: February 2006

Situated very near Princess Juliana airport, it was wonderful. The sound of the surf was louder than most of the air traffic.

It was located right on the beach, and it was beautiful. The outdoor shower was such a treat! The beds were good, the kitchen was well equipped, the air conditioning worked well, and it was very clean.

We had a ball! I would highly recommend Faja Lobie. It was truly a place we want to return to!

Faja Lobie, Beacon Hill (Dutch side) traveler review

Faja Lobie was not relaxing. Visited: December 2005

This was a beautiful villa with amazing views, but it was very loud. It was less than a football field away from the airport, and there was no escaping the loud sound of the planes taking off and landing.

We were told by Caribbean Way that it wasn't a problem. But upon being in the villa for 15 minutes, it was apparent to us that this was going to be a problem.

Also, the pool was less than desirable. It was merely a plunge pool and its location got very little sun.

Also, if you are traveling with young children, this is not a safe place. There were no railings between the deck and the five-foot drop to a very rocky beach. Also, the beach was not very inviting. We drove the 30 minutes to Anse Marcel and Orient Beach.

Most important: whoever stays in the back bedrooms will not be able to sleep since that was the part of the house that faced the runway. You can actually see the jets from that window.

Overall, it would be more appropriate for those who are looking for a place to crash and go elsewhere for activitites. It was not a villa that invites you to lounge by the pool.

This was an absolutely wonderful villa. Visited: June 2004

We had a wonderful time staying at this villa. The pictures did not do it justice. It was also in a very nice section of St. Maarten, and was close to restaurants and other things.

Everything was as promised! It was even better in reality. Visited: February 2004

This was a piece of paradise. They had an outstanding layout allowing gathering of our party (six), while accommodating privacy with three bedroom/baths.

We had an ocean view, beach access, pool, amenities that were all excellent. It was in a good location on an island. It was near the beach, grocery, restaurants and casinos. It was also near the airport, but we didn't mind it with the strong surf sound. It still seemed very private.

Although there were rocks at the edge of the beach, there were a few good access ways. It also provided good wave riding.

My only comment is: need more in kitchen-coffee mugs, pan lids, etc. All in our party definitely would like to return.

A comfortable accommodation with great views and a helpful staff. Visited: December 2001

We enjoyed Faja Lobie so much that we are returning this December.

We had a wonderful view of cruise ships going by in the morning, and being on the ocean was so relaxing. Plus, we didn't need to go far to take a morning swim. The plunge pool was great for cooling off. We can't wait to return!
