We read the ads for the Old Stone Farmhouse Restaurant and decided it would be a good choice for dinner one evening while spending a week in St. Thomas. What a disappointment! Yes, the historical significance of the property and the ambience was fascinating. But the food was absolutely terrible. The first three courses were so small (about 2 bites in each one) and for the most part tasted bad. My husband and I both got the lamb for the main course and it tasted awful and was very fatty. Even the wine was awful. How can you ruin a glass of Pinot Noir?? After the dinner we had such a bad taste in our mouths and asked for mints. They said they couldn't give us any but gave us sorbet. It also tasted terrible; we couldn't finish it. We were both up sick at least half that night. Needless to say, we won't go back. I can't believe that awful meal came to over $170.00.
We have been visiting St. Thomas for the 8 years. We have two favorite restaurants and one of them is Herve. The ambience, the service, the view, and the wonderful food and wine is exceptional. And Herve is there it pleasantly greet us. We can't wait to return.
We just returned from about our 8th year of enjoying a week-long vacation in St. Thomas. We have been staying at Emerald Beach and enjoy the restort tremendously. The rooms are large, very clean and lovely, with a beautiful view from the balcony. The staff is wonderful, so friendly and helpful, from the manager, Joel, to the kitchen and beach bar staff, the taxi drivers, the housekeepers. We can't wait to return again.
This was my first visit to USVI, and my first non-"rack and stack" hotel experience. Villa rental is the best way to experience the island in my opinion. This Villa was clean, well kept, and very private. The deck was huge, and my favorite place to relax, enjoy the view of the bay, and reflect. The management was top notch. She was so friendly and acomodating. Even to the point of being "on-call" when we got lost while out exploring! I already miss the island and the people terribly. There are so many people who made us feel like we belong. The experience of acceptance and genuine interest in conversation belies the typical feel of touristy islands. St. John has become my favorite spot to get away to. Go see the very friendly folk at the Aqua Bistro restaraunt. MJ the chef, really takes pride in his trade and manages to take time to personally greet and check on his guests.
Just came back from a very relaxing week at Timothy Beach Resort. The accomodations bring to mind the simplicity and charm of the Caribbean of more than 20 years ago. Large studio unit was ample for us as a couple. Great little beach bars and restaurants close be - Kathy's is a definite for traditional caribbean fare. Her jerk barbecue poultry & meat are fantastic. If one likes simple, laid back atmosphere this is definitely a great place to be.
