The landmark Club Comanche opened on November 11, 1948, paving the way for tourism on the island. Located within the Historic District in the heart of Christiansted, it is St. Croix’s oldest existing hotel and boasts the first swimming pool in the Virgin Islands! On September 24, 2007, Jack Pickel, Manager of Alameda Virgin Islands Company, LLC, purchased the hotel and began his plans to rejuvenate the entire property.
Built as a Danish townhouse in the 1750s, the Club Comanche is now a small, rambling 27-room boutique hotel. A cage elevator takes you to the top floor rooms of the Main House. Across the bridge over the street are the poolside and waterfront rooms in the Bridgehouse, built in the 1970s.
Club Comanche is currently undergoing a refurnishing and re-equipping of the rooms, lobby, and grounds. The rooms are getting a welcome facelift with new paint, updated amenities, and furnishings in the West Indian style. The massive pool has been repaired, freshly painted, and converted to fresh water. Upon completion, the hotel will feature a boardwalk bar and grill, a lobby wine cellar and tasting room, banquet and conference rooms, a business center, a gallery of shops, spa, and docking facilities.
Jack and his new management staff look forward to returning this historic site back into the glamorous, sophisticated hotel it was with the reputation it enjoyed for many decades. The reopening is scheduled for November of this year.
