I have read all the many reviews of hotel on the island of tobago here, but of them all, our tour operator decided on the tropikist as it was the only hotel close to the airport that was a great deal, or so we thought. We arrived, and yes it was close to the airport, very close, it's next to the landing strip, the overall look of the hotel is like taking a step back in time, the hotel is run down and faded and good do with a good coat of paint, the hotel's sign is falling apart and is very tacky. The receptionist are welcoming and about the only persons at the hotel that is friendly, the maids are ok, but dont talk much, and would not speak if you dont speak to them, the bar staff, by far the most rude of all, the restuarnt staff appears as if they are doing you a favour at serving you.
The rooms, I must admit, all have nice views of the ocean, and all have balconies or patios, which is very nice. The beds are old and dated, and need to be updated or changed, the fridge is a small very old piece of equipment that doesnt really work and only makes noise, it is rusted to say the least and I was afraid of opening it in fear of getting infected, not to mention the health issues. The shwower needs a proper cleaning and there is limescale build up on the faucets and fixtures, the door dont work, and most guests say they dont even lock. The restaurant is not organised properly and it makes no sense complaining. Just avoid this hotel |
