I have read all the many reviews of hotel on the island of tobago here, but of them all, our tour operator decided on the tropikist as it was the only hotel close to the airport that was a great deal, or so we thought. We arrived, and yes it was close to the airport, very close, it's next to the landing strip, the overall look of the hotel is like taking a step back in time, the hotel is run down and faded and good do with a good coat of paint, the hotel's sign is falling apart and is very tacky. The receptionist are welcoming and about the only persons at the hotel that is friendly, the maids are ok, but dont talk much, and would not speak if you dont speak to them, the bar staff, by far the most rude of all, the restuarnt staff appears as if they are doing you a favour at serving you.
The rooms, I must admit, all have nice views of the ocean, and all have balconies or patios, which is very nice. The beds are old and dated, and need to be updated or changed, the fridge is a small very old piece of equipment that doesnt really work and only makes noise, it is rusted to say the least and I was afraid of opening it in fear of getting infected,not to mention the health issues. The shwower needs a proper cleaning and there is limescale build up on the faucets and fixtures, the door dont work, and most guests say they dont even lock. The restaurant is not organised properly and it makes no sense complaining. Just avoid this hotel

This resort quoted as a 4 star was not to our standards a 4 closer to a 3+. We where not placed in the room/building we requested, on the web-site they offer in room safes, it was in the room but we where unable to obtain a key for it the entire stay, so needless to say we could not lock up our moies/passports. (who runs a resorts with not enough keyes for the safes?). We went with a group of 19, on many occasions we where told we could not sit/eat together at the restaurants and that was a group of 8 at the time. Pools closed at 6pm, for those who like to swim after supper pools are not an option. At the child pool area, woman where topless even though the sign read that tops where to be on. (alot of topless at pools and on beach area). The staff where ok (if you where tipping they fellover you if you didn't you would wait along time for your next drink. I found as a female the female staff didn't smile at me or go out of their way to wait on me, as opposed to the male sex. My housekeeping staff was wonderful, no complaints there, except no room has face cloths (bring your own). We had joined up for some excusions that where cancelled the day of, very frustrating. Rooms are not sound proof, could hear what was going on next door....

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this lovely home. Our host and hostess could not have been nicer or more accommodating. There were beautiful views from every room and we enjoyed all the outdoor areas in which to relax in the sun and breeze. We can heartily recommend La Casa Blanca to anyone visiting the area.

It is like going home to relax. Great food, people and fantastic snorkling right off the front of the property. Be sure to catch the sunsets with a rum punch on the lounge chairs overlooking the deep blue sea.
