I have been staying here since December 2006, and just returned from a visit May 3, 2008. Forget those all-inclusives and stay here. If you truly want to experience Jamaica, this is your spot.
Home Sweet Home is intimate and cozy with only 14 rooms. The rooms are no frills, but they are clean. The staff is friendly and outgoing. I usually stay during the off season when it is not fully staffed, but I'm okay with that because it gives me a chance to mingle with the locals.
There are many places within walking distance to have a cheap, good meal.
I was here once during "high" season, and it was amazing! They have a restaurant on site with great food. I am a woman who travels alone, and the staff looked out for my safety which is important to me. I stayed at one of the beachside resorts once, and was overcome by watching the locals "hustling" the tourists on the beach.
The vibes on the cliffs are easy and laid back. Home Sweet Home is the perfect place to decompress. The property is beautiful and serene, with fabulous views of the ocean - and spectacular sunsets in the evening.
Charlie, leave the light on for me because I'll be back in October! I'm already counting the months! |

We just returned from a week’s stay at BodyHoliday. We loved everything about the resort, and tried to take advantage of all they had to offer, but that was impossible.
we tried: scuba shore dive, tubing, sailing lesson, snorkeling, and many workout classes (body stretch, body burn, yoga, meditation, tai chi, body circuits, body attack, martial fun, pilates). We also tried all the included spa treatments, intro to golf, intro to archery, and morning walks.
The spa treatments were pre-scheduled. You can change them, but it is difficult. It worked well for us. We also had time to relax on the beach and at the pool and catch some rays.
The resort lagoon had its own reef that was also used by the Sandals resort. We saw octopus, rockfish, flounder, moray eels, squid, and numerous varieties of fish and coral.
We loved the food at Deli, Cariblue and Tao especially. Cariblue had great breakfast and lunch buffets with many options. Book at Tao early, as it fills up fast. We never tried an entrée that cost extra, as we found the included selections to be enough.
A very few of the entrees on the Cariblue menu were just so, so; but, it was obvious that they would have brought another for us if it wasn’t to our taste as the service was excellent. We always found we had plenty to eat, and this wasn’t necessary.
We got a renovated room and we were very pleased. The mattress comfort was okay, and furniture selection was not well thought out. The leather cushions were nice to look at, but not all that comfortable.
The grounds were gorgeous. |

Tropikist Beach Hotel - Tobago |

I had read all the reviews of hotels on the island of Tobago here. Of them all, our tour operator decided on the Tropikist as it was the only hotel close to the airport that was a great deal - or so we thought.
We arrived, and yes, it was close to the airport - very close. It was next to the landing strip.
The overall look of the hotel was like taking a step back in time. The hotel was run down and faded, and could do for a good coat of paint. The hotel's sign was falling apart, and was very tacky.
The receptionists were welcoming - and about the only people at the hotel who were friendly. The maids were okay, but they didn't talk much. They would not speak if you didn't speak to them. The bar staff, by far, was the most rude of all. The restaurant staff appeared as if they were doing us a favor at serving us.
The rooms, I must admit, all had nice views of the ocean. Also, they all had balconies or patios, which was very nice. The beds were old and dated, and need to be updated or changed. The fridge was a small, very old piece of equipment that didn't really work and only made noise. It was rusted, to say the least, and I was afraid of opening it in fear of getting infected - not to mention the health issues.
The shwower needs a proper cleaning, and there was limescale build up on the faucets and fixtures. The door didn't work, and most guests said they didn't even lock.
The restaurant was not organized properly, and it didn't help to complain. I suggest you just avoid this hotel. |

This resort was quoted as a four-star, but was not to our standards of a four-star. It was closer to a three-star.
We were not placed in the room/building we requested. Also, on the web site they offered in-room safes. It was in the room, but we were unable to obtain a key for it the entire stay. Needless to say, we could not lock up our passports. Who runs a resort with not enough keys for the safes?
We went with a group of 19. On many occasions, we were told we could not sit/eat together at the restaurants - and that was a group of eight at the time.
The pools closed at 6:00 pm, so for those who like to swim after supper - pools were not an option. At the child pool area, women where topless - even though the sign read that tops were to be on. There were a lot of topless women at the pools and on the beach area.
The staff was okay. It seemed if we tipped, they fell over us to help. If we didn't, we would wait a long time for our next drink. I found as a female, the female staff didn't smile at me or go out of their way to wait on me - as opposed to how they were with the male guests.
My housekeeping staff was wonderful. I had no complaints there. However, no room had face cloths (bring your own).
We had joined up for some excursions that where cancelled the day of. It was very frustrating. The rooms were not sound proof, either, so you could hear what was going on next door. |
