Captain Morgan's Retreat was great.Visited: October 2008

It is really hard to believe some of the negative reviews. I think they are from competitors. To say that the staff is rude is far from the truth. We have been here twice, and the staff is one of the main reasons we will go back.
The food is also very good. The rooms are nice, too. If there are any issues, the staff is very attentive to them. The spa/massages are unbelievable, and the whole atmosphere is very relaxing.

They offer "supposed" relaxation.Visited: October 2008
Posted by dolsul
It was advertised as being relaxing. Not if you make the unknown mistake we, and 15 other guests, did.
One of the owners invited freinds and family for a birthday party for his wife. He hired a DJ to set up in the restaurant and bar in middle of common area. It sounded okay to us.
Then we were told we were not allowed to use the bar, restaurant, or pool from 6 pm on. Resort employees actually walked perimeter of party to keep out party crashers. Other guests were told to basically order room service and stay in villa.
The party went on at full volume with people thrown in the pool (screaming), and the DJ at full blast until 3:38 am. Guests who requested to have party toned down were honored for about five minutes. Then, music and yelling were back on.
Resort employees answered " sorry he is an owner". Three nights later, the bar house music was cranked way up and people were being thrown in pool again unil after midnight. We got no consolation offer from resort. Neither did any of the other guests I talked to.
This is not always a relaxing resort. Beware!

This is a great place for a destination wedding.Visited: July 2008

Destination wedding anyone? To all the couples thinking of having a destination wedding, Table Rock in Belize is the perfect setting.
My husband and I had the most amazing time here. The staff was so accommodating. They helped from the smallest detail of table settings all the way to the major details of legal documents. Without their help and their beautiful property, our wedding would not have been what it was.
The memories that we have from our pre-honeymoon, wedding ceremony, and actual honeymoon will last a lifetime. We cannot wait to return to Table Rock and rediscover ourselves once again!

I can't wait for my next visit. I've been here twice, and it just gets better.
Colleen and Alan have treated Table Rock with the love and respect it deserves - and it really shows. Everything is done with care - the food, the decor, the planting, and the preservation of the jungle.
I recently recommended some friends to stay here, and they loved it, too - saying it was even more than they had expected from my descriptions.
My only complaint is that Belize is not exactly an easy journey from the UK. However, once you get here, it's completely worthwhile.

The Lodge at Chaa Creek was excellent!Visited: March 2008
Posted by daleincalgary
This was our first visit to Belize. We wanted an adventurous trip, and we were more than willing to stay in a "rustic" setting. We did not want the air conditioned comfort of the Lodge. Instead, we opted for The Macal River Camp, part of the Chaa Creek resort and it was perfect.
The accomodations brought the jungle indoors. We were comfortable, safe and very satisfied with our decision. The staff at the Camp was gentle, polite, thoughtful and very pleasant.
The Howler monkeys were a bit noisy, but they only added to the wonder of this place.
Our meals were delicious, and the staff was universally helpful with all of our needs. This was not luxury accommodation, but if you want to feel that you have gotten close to your environment, this is the place. The setting, the casitas, the food, the unique experience - all were terrific.
We cannot say enough good things about this wonderful camp and its staff. It exceeded our expectations, and was excellent value. We would go back at the drop of hat.

Two friends, and my husband and I recently stayed at Table Rock for two nights while on a tour of several Central American countries. It was a highlight of our trip.
The three cabanas we occupied were all beautifully decorated. Each cabana had its own decor, all attractive to both the men and the women. The cabanas were surrounded by landscaping that artfully blended into the surrounding jungle. An orchard greeted us as we entered the property.
The dining area was covered, but open to the air. The food was wonderful, and the service was excellent. The dining area sat atop a hill which led down to the river.
If you're looking for a fantastic place to stay in Belize - this is it!

It was a picture perfect Caribbean island!Visited: May 2008

My stay at Turneffe Island Lodge, a private Caribbean Island, was nothing less than perfection!
The island itself was beautiful, with gorgeous beaches, pristine water, luxurious accomodations, and much more. Also, the food was excellent!
My husband and I were on the diving package, and were amazed by the secluded (and close!) dive sites we visited. The Blue Hole dive was our favorite. The diving guides were excellent- helpful, friendly, and knowledgable.
We were pampered on the island to say the least! I suggest you visit their web site. We will definitely will visit again!

The diving was first rate, the services were amazing, the staff was very, very attentive, and the rooms were kept incredibly clean. Even the grounds were impeccable.
The island is so small, that you quickly become friends with everyone, and yet you can find lots of private places to be if you want to.
I will go back again, and again, and again.

This is the jewel of the Macal.Visited: October 2007

Table Rock is a rain forest gem! It boasts the best of both worlds--the idyllic peacefulness of the jungle and the opportunity for wild adventure. I enjoyed both during my recent stay.
The well-appointed thatched cabanas were very comfortable - while still affording the true rain forest experience. I enjoyed tubing, canoing and swimming in the clear Macal River that borders the property. I was challenged by hiking adventures throughout their 100-acre preserve.
Our hosts, Colleen and Alan, were very gracious and knowledgeable, and treated me like family rather than a guest. They provided delicious meals, and arranged for tours to both local (Cahal Pech, Laminai, Rio on Pools) and distant (Tikal, Guatemala) Mayan ruins and points of interest. All were fabulous!
From quiet early morning birdwatching with fresh hot coffee, to late night "listening safaris" (howler monkeys, ocelots, kinkajoos) with a cocktail from the bar, this vacation scored as my favorite, and I would recommend it to everyone.

This is a secluded jungle eco-resort.Visited: March 2008

This eco-resort was built by the hands of its owners. The only sounds in this quiet secluded resort belong to the jungle life surrounding you in your lovely cabana.
The owners will personally see to your choices of local adventures, your personal dining desires, and help you understand the preservation of this natural paradise.
Here, you will be treated like a friend - and not just a tourist passing through!

We were given Table Rock's name from a bed and breakfast in Caye Caulker. We were pleasantly surprised by how beautiful the Cabañas were. The scenery was amazing, and the location was peaceful and quiet.
The hosts were very inviting, and made our stay a wonderful experience.
Also, the food was very tasty. We enjoyed canoeing on the river, and doing some light hiking. At night, we spent time visiting with Colleen, Alan and other guests as we listened to the jungle come alive. It was great.
We would definitely go back and stay here again.

I rediscovered myself at Table Rock.Visited: November 2007

Our days at Table Rock were a true fulfillment of their motto of “Rediscover Yourself”. I needed real “down time”, and being disconnected from my electronic leash. Both were met during our stay with Colleen and Alan, the Table Rock owners.
Time, in either the hammocks down in the Hammock Cabana or the air chairs on our Mot-Mot Room porch with a good book, was very well spent. As was swimming in the crystal clear Macal River on which Table Rock has over 2000 feet of frontage.
Also, their gravel bar beach was a great place for viewing flocks of parrots as they flew overhead. At Table Rock, we were constantly absorbed by nature.
Each and every meal was a delight, with a Belizean flavor. In addition to the good food, the dining experience was heightened by their high, thatched roofed open-air dining room and lounge. We had views of the jungle out three, wall-less sides, with the stone-backed bar on the fourth. Stepping out onto the attached deck also provided a breath-taking view of the river below.
Our desire to explore a Mayan ruin was satisfied by traveling minutes to San Ignacio Town’s Cahal Pech restoration. We were able to climb the temple grounds uninhibited by restrictive barriers, and the interpretive center provided additional background to enhance our appreciation of Mayan culture. We were able to leisurely tour the ruins and still get back to our cabana with time left for visiting Table Rock’s resident donkeys.

Our hosts, Colleen and Alan, provided us with a full and authentic experience, with care taken over small details. Colleen was able to cater for the last-minute discovery that I am vegetarian, for example!
Trips were organized for us - to Tikal, for example, which represented a good value for money. Table Rock itself was a delight, complete with jungle walks, fauna and flora, and access to the river.
The fortnight went way too fast, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it!

My wife and I shared a fabulous week at Table Rock.
The cabanas were terrific, very clean, and very comfortable. Our hosts, Colleen and Alan, were fanastic! They were extremely thoughtful and accommodating to their guests.
The food was excellent! Fresh fruit and local ingredients were prepared to perfection! The setting was idyllic. It was in the jungle, but had all the comforts of home. It was right on the Macal River.
We really had a great trip, and highly recommend it to anyone.

My husband and I ate at Charlies Bar while staying at Hickatee Cottages not too long ago, and we were truly impressed by the quality of the cuisine and the graciousness of the owners, Kate and Ian.
From the homemade breads and melt-in-your-mouth entrees, to the world class wine selection and more, we have few other restaurants in the country with which we can even compare it!
Don't miss out. If you're going to be in the Punta Gorda area, be sure to dine at Charlies Bar at Hickatee!

My husband and parents were amazed at the quality of the cuisine served at The Bistro. As long as we've been coming to Belize (ten years now), we had never found any menu so delicious or diverse.
From the handmade bread to the chocolate souffle prepared by The Bistro's owner, every bite was a treat. The wait staff was wonderful, too, and the full bar was like being in a Hemingway novel.
To top off the amazing dining, you can eat on the back veranda directly on the Caribbean Sea! When you're in and around Placencia, don't miss out on this gem!

The staff was very nice for the most part, but we experienced many problems.
On the first night after arriving, when my wife turned the water on, the rancid smell from the tap was so bad, my wife got sick. When questioning the staff the next day, they stated that the water filter was accidentally not replaced. I was told all would be fixed that day.
However, when we returned the following night, it was still smelling bad. The next day, the staff said they may have forgotten again. The smell was never fixed.
I was misquoted on prices for a golf cart, and a Mayan ruins tour. I was also told that the staff would give me a wake-up call so we would no miss the tour. However, they never called.
And last of all, we had to catch a water taxi at 7:00 am. We were told we could get a free ride at 6:30, and that the office was open at 6:00 am. On the morning in question, there was no staff until 6:40, and we barely made it to the water taxi. On top of that, I had to pay for the "free" taxi!
We were very disappointed.
