Long known as one of Grand Cayman's quieter sisters the tiny island of Cayman Brac screams to underwater enthusiasts the world over. At the top of any must-do list for visitors to 'the Brac' is the MV Capt. Keith Tibbetts. A 330-foot Russian destroyer intentionally sunk off Cayman Brac’s west end in 1996, she remains the only divable Russian warship in the Western Hemisphere. Joining the Tibbetts as part of the Brac’s unique underwater world is Oceanic Voyagers, a 7-foot tall bronze statue created by world-renowned marine sculptor Dale Evers. The sculpture, which depicts a pair of Spotted Dolphins cavorting with the Cayman Islands' famous Southern Stingrays, was sunk off the Brac’s coast at Radar Reef in January 2003 as part of a year long celebration commemorating the Cayman Islands' Quincentennial anniversary. These large pelagics literally come to life in and around the multitude of dive sites on this stunning island. Other attractions to be found in the waters off the Brac include two other wrecks, an ancient anchor embedded in a wall, numerous healthy shallow reefs and miles of colourful sponge and coral laden drop-offs. The majestic walls of Cayman Brac showcase a labyrinth of tunnels and swim-throughs in what is the Caribbean's very own underwater Grand Canyon. (close)
