This is a great place to stay with a family! All the facilities are at hand and the owners are very engaged, happy people. They made us feel right at home and helped us to find the best spots on the island! Definitely a place that we hope to return to one day!!!
Upon entering my room I was shocked. I would be staying in a far from clean time share condominium with an odd smell. In the bathroom the water was leaking and the bottles of shampoo and conditioner were open, no doubt after use by the previous guests meaning that not only had they not been replaced, but that the bathroom had not been cleaned. I tried to relax only to find that the television remote was not working. I requested fresh batteries which came three hours later but did not solve the problem. Not a huge problem, but given everything that had already happened.
That evening as I settled into bed it quickly became clear to me that I was not sleeping in clean sheets. In fact I suspect that the hotel staff had simply made the bed after the last guests departure. What's more, the bed was so old that a spring was constantly poking me in the back.
The front desk staff could care less and nothing was done. The next morning I left the room as early as possibly and returned around 3:00 PM. As I looked into the bedroom I noticed that the sheets had not been changed, nor had the bed been made. I called the front desk and asked for clean sheets. I then went to dinner and returned a few hours later to find a garbage bag with sheets sitting on the dinning room table. I was informed that the rooms were only serviced every other day and that I would have to put the fresh sheets on the bed and make it myself.
Please do yourself a favor and do not ever stay here!!!
If the place is so bad, how comes you keep going back? You seem to post every year, surely you would have learnt your lesson? Either your and idiot for going back year after year after not enjoying it or your an idiot who posts bad reviews for a laugh, either way your an idiot.
I absolutely loved staying at the Hillcrest Guesthouse. They give you so much more for your money than any of the other places on the island. My family and I stayed there and it literally felt like a home away from home. They also had a complimentary menu which was extremely helpful to me (especially travelling with children). Not only did the owner personally pick us up from the boat and took us to the room but she also went shopping for the menu before we got there. So there was a fully stocked fridge! They also had places in which she recomended that you eat and the food was wonderful. My favorite part was the shopping! Joy is the owner of St. John bracelet and you get a really nice discount at her jewlery store if you stay at the hillcrest guesthouse! My overall experience there was WONDERFUL. I've already booked my room for next year and I can't wait!
The villa is comfortable and beautifully situated. The price was right in June/July, modest- -even, perhaps reflecting the age of the place. While it's not new or ornate, it was certainly clean and sericeable.
The one window air-conditioning unit was not up to the task of cooling the master bedroom suite.
The trade winds made the place comfortable, though they're not enough to completely offset the temperatures + humidity in late June and early July. As much of a relief as the wind provides, potential guests should be aware it really is more than a breeze. It's wind...24/7, at least during our stay. The sound of the wind wistling through the house can get on one's nerves after a while. But I would't say it's a deal breaker.
We rather enjoyed using the outdoor shower, though we were a little surprised that that was the only shower on the south side of the villa.
The hot tub is nice, situated as it is with that stunning view of the bay.
Beit Hawa probably deserves more than three stars...not quite four.
