Description
Location. Located on Maui's southwest coast in Wailea, Hawaii, the Grand Wailea Resort sits on 40 acres of oceanfront land along Wailea Beach. Wailea Golf Courses are one quarter mile from the hotel. Hotel Features. Copper hula dancer statues and Travertine flooring decorate the fragrant, open air lobby, while lush gardens, vibrant flowers, and waterfalls accent the property's landscape. Eight restaurants are located on site, including Humuhumunukunukuapua'a, named after Hawaii's state fish. Serving fresh island food, the Polynesian thatch roofed restaurant floats on a saltwater lagoon. The hotel's pool complex includes the adults only Hibiscus Pool, made from over 2.2 million tiles, and two adults only Jacuzzis. Wailea Canyon Activity Pool features seven freeform pools connected over six levels by a river and water elevator. Four jungle pools, four tiled slides, a white water rapids slide and a Tarzan pool with a rope swing are included. The pool area also features a sandy beach, three Jacuzzis, a sauna and a baby beach. Cabanas are available by reservation. The hotel's health club features sports courts, fitness classes and personal training for a fee. Children can spend mornings or afternoons at Camp Grande, where activities include lei making and storytelling.
Guestrooms. The 780 guestrooms include private teakwood furnished lanais. Select rooms feature views of the hotel's garden, the ocean or mountains. Rooms are decorated in natural hues and include rattan furnishings, sitting areas and desks. Beds feature triple sheeting and white down duvets. Italian marble bathrooms contain framed mirrors, granite countertops and separate tubs and glass enclosed showers. Bathrobes and slippers are provided. Complimentary wireless Internet access is available.
Expert Tip. Intent on pampering myself, I scheduled an appointment at the hotel's 50,000 square foot Spa Grande, where I experienced the relaxing sensations of the Hawaiian Lomi Lomi Massage, also known as the "Hula of Massage," and the Volcanic Ash Facial. Resort Fees: Resort fees are determined by the hotel and are subject to change.
