Halekulani Hotel provides flawless service and beautiful surroundings. Visited: October 2003 |

We stayed at the Halekulani the first week of October 2003. The lobby decor was subtle, but elegant, and they took us to our room to complete registration.
Upon entering my room (prime oceanfront), the first thing I noticed was the quiet serenity about it..nothing over the top, or too extreme. I was surrounded by beautiful muted colors, shuttered patio doors, and a large bathroom with sunken tub and separate shower.
A fruit and chocolate (they made their own!) platter awaited us, as well as a refrigerator full of complimentary water and fruit juices. The large closet that could be accessed from both bedroom and bath area was a nice added touch.
If you forgot any toiletries at home, don't worry, the hotel would provide them.. down to sunscreen and a nail kit. Also, robes and slippers were there for guests' use. The balcony (I was on the eighth floor) was the largest I've seen in Waikiki and overlooked a beautiful ocean scene as well as the famous Orchid pool. At night, we could hear the waves and the music from House Without a Key.
We did not eat at any of the restaurants, but we did go to the manager's reception (Wednesday) and it was very well done...champagne, appetizers, etc. Make sure you dress up if you attend. We did spend a couple evenings at House Without a Key, the beachfront dining/lounge where we listened to lovely island music and had some amazing cocktails..try the Green Banana.
The pool was beautiful, just as the brochure photos showed, and the lounge chairs around the pool were very comfortable. A waitress came around to take drink orders. The grounds were beautifully landscaped and it was hard to believe we were a block away from a very busy Lewers Street when we walked through them.
They had a few shops, mostly high-end and jewelry shops. Be sure to check out their signature Halekulani gift shop. It was a little pricey, but they had a nice selection of clothing, bath items, and food stuffs.
Hotel staff went out of their way to be helpful and courteous, especially the valet staff. It actually became a joke of ours to try to catch the staff "not being perfect"! Our car was always waiting for us within a minute or two of calling for it. The staff also had a very thoughtful way of making sure they addressed us, if not by name, then by where we were from, or what we did that day, or if we needed directions.
I could go on all day (I already have!) about the luxurious amenities and flawless staff at this hotel, but I just recommend you see it for yourself. I realize it's a bit expensive, so maybe do what our group did..stay a few nights at a more reasonable hotel, and then finish off your stay at Halekulani. You won't regret it, and will probably be spoiled for life! |

My wife and I visited the busy Island of Oahu for our honeymoon. We stayed at a couple of different places around the island trying to get a feel for each diverse part. If your going to stay in Waikiki then the Halekulani is the only place to stay! Service is the best. The courteous staff attends to your every need.
The rooms are quite spacious. We stayed in an oceanfront suite for 2 days and splurged our final day for the Presidential suite. The oceanfront suite was well equipped with kitchen, cd player, VCR, 2 baths, bedroom, 2 balconies, and a nice view of the ocean and Diamond Head. The Presidential suite is breathtaking. We had a personal "butler" at our convenience, limo transportation, and over 4000 sq. ft. of room to play. I was tickled that the room was equipped with a piano. The price I will not mention but if you want luxury don't hesitate.
We ate at all the restaurants, though Le Mar was by far the best, the others were tantalizing as well. If eating at the La Mer, request a table overlooking the awe inspiring Hawaiian sunsets. Be prepared to spend over $100 per head, well worth it.
It's hard to get away from the riff raff of Waikiki, but I believe The Halekulani is your best bet! |
