There are much better options on Waikiki... Visited: January 2004 |

After a 4 night stay in an excellent resort on Maui, we arrived in Oahu, and we were so disappointed as we rode to the hotel. When people say, you either hate Oahu or you love it...they are right. There is no medium. Oahu is loud, commercialized, crowded with tourists, industrial, and lacks the true essence of Hawaii. After reading such rave reviews of our hotel, boasting it's size and intimacy, it's amenities and options, we had higher expectations. The Hilton Hawaiian Village is really a theme park. It really cannot be classified as a village really, it's more like a city. From the moment we arrived we were hustled and bustled through checkout in their "arrivals" and "departures" lines...it was like an airport with about 8 check-in clerks. Service was poor, except for the restaurant in the Rainbow Tower, the staff there was so sweet and welcoming and patient. The food was good. Everything at this hotel is over-priced and the grounds are not well-maintained. Having a massage by the pool is hyping it up a bit. You are in a cabana open to the walking patrons on one side and there are children and people yelling and screaming around you. The Hilton is outdated and lacks tremendously in service and hospitality. Image is a huge deal at this hotel and you are treated accordingly. I personally think there are much better places to stay in Oahu, especially on Waikiki. I would stay further down Waikiki toward Diamond Head, maybe in one of the Sheratons...I doubt we would ever return to Oahu though. The Hilton is way at the beginning and it is in my opinion way overrated. Spend your well deserved dollars elsewhere... |

A serene beach, but a busy hotel. Visited: July 2003 |

My sister and I stayed at the Hilton Hawaiian Village during the week of the Fourth of July in 2003. We stayed in the Tapa Towers for four nights and then in the Ali'i towers for four nights.
For the money, the experience of the awesome ocean view from the hotel was great in the Ali'i Tower, and the special touches (telephone, mini tv in bathroom, bathrobes, evening drinks etc.) were nice, but it would be better to spend your money on a rental car and see the rest of the island.
The staff was pleasant, and the beach location was one of the best on the island. It was somewhat of a "Disney" experience because the resort was so large, but most people seemed to skip the beach. That was great for me, and on Sunday mornings I had it all to myself. At least once, it would be worth the experience at this hotel. |

An excellent facility, but not very personal. Visited: February 2003 |

We were very impressed with the Hilton Hawaiian Village, but learned that we prefer smaller resorts.
If you are willing to spend the money (we were not) the amenities and services in the Ali'i tower were amazing. We used a hospitality room in that tower on our last day and loved it - mini TV and phone in the bathroom, robes and slippers, comfortable patio furniture, larger room with sofa, actual comforter on the bed, etc.
All the things you've already read about how huge, impersonal, and expensive the hotel is, are true. If you are looking for a nice hotel with tons of shopping and things to keep the kids busy, you will be pleased. It's very crowded but we were always able to find chairs at one of the pools and at the restaurants and bars.
We stayed at the Outrigger Reef in December of 2000 and preferred it for the smaller size and easier walk to the rest of the beaches, restaurants, and shopping. |

We spent a week at the Lagoon Tower, and it was awesome. We had a great oceanfront room, and the staff was friendly and attentive. There was plenty to do within the Village-shops, restaurants, beach, etc. My wife and two teenage kids had a blast! |

A fantastic place! Visited: April 2002 |

Our room was on the 10th floor in the Rainbow Towers.
Words cannot explain the fantastic view we enjoyed with two patios - one viewed Diamond Head with very impressive sunrises early in the morning, and the other the harbor and beautiful sunsets.
We plan on returning in April 2003 for our 51st wedding anniversary. |

We just returned from spending two nights in the the Hilton Hawaiian Village. We stayed in a partial ocean-view room in the Tapa Tower.
Our room included a king bed and couch, a mini-bar, a refrigerator. The decor was very pretty.
The staff was extremely accommodating.
While it was pricey (beer was $4.75 and speciatly drinks at poolside were $8.58 plus a tip), it was a great place to splurge for a few days.
There was a large pool on the beach and a smaller pool at the Tapa Tower. We thought there would be a few hot tubs, but we found none.
The grounds were immaculate. There wenguins (yes, penguins), flamingoes, fish ponds and tropical flowers everywhere. It was exactly what you'd want in a Hawaiian resort.

This place was incredible. We spent five nights in a partial ocean view room in the Ali'i tower. We had good view of the ocean and pool, and great views of the Friday night Polynesian show and fireworks.
The grounds were beautiful, the beach was nice and transporation was available to anywhere we wanted to go - restaurants, ABC store - this place had it all. Our only complaint was the price of meals in the restaurant. However, it was just a short walk to several restaurants off the property.
The staff was very friendly and helpful. We can't wait to return! |

Stayed at Hilton Hawaiian Village’s premier accommodations, the Alii Tower in 2001 for 12 days and in 2002 for 4 days. The rooms are nice. Pools are very small and not deep enough for swimming. Some rooms are a little noisy, as the Hawaiian Village is a huge complex of several skyscrapers. I expected Hawaii to be much more natural and quiet. The prices of the rooms are way too high. Most of the staff is only friendly when you are giving huge tips. For example, they even were not willing to accept my postcards for posting at the reception desk. |

My two girlfriends, my son and I stayed in the Rainbow Tower. The room was nice with a partial ocean view, but the bathroom was quite small. I liked having the small refrigerator for water and snacks. There was also an ABC store in the village.
I loved the location of the Rainbow Tower because it was right next to the big pool. (I am a pool person, myself.) The beach was incredible, because it was so wide and big. The grounds were amazing. It was a very large property, so it could be a walk to shops and restaurants in the village, depending on what tower you were in. Take a cab to the International Market because it is a bit of a walk, but it is worth it.
I definitely want to return! |

Perfect way to begin a trip to the islands! Visited: June 2001 |

The whole resort had a great feel to it . . . from the beautiful landscaping to the wonderful service we encountered. Our room was spotless and quite large in the Tapa Tower. We would have loved a true Ocean View, but it didn't work out with our reservations (travel agent problem), but it was still quite a view of the city with a glimpse of the lagoon.
We loved breakfast at the buffet! We could see the beach and landscaping while leisurly enjoying our breakfast!
One of the best parts of the hotel was the American Express tour desk and Julie Palenapa! Ask for her. She had a way of making us feel like we were her long lost best friends and even better, she treated us like it, too, by giving great service . . . no, outstanding service. If she suggests something, trust her. She's giving good advice! She did everything she could to make our Hawaiian dreams come true! |

Me and my girlfriend were amazed by the beauty of Hilton Hawaiian Village! The resort is large and well kept; we especially enjoyed ponds with red fish, flamingoes and tropical penguins. The towers are gorgeous, I was especially impressed by the Tapa Tower; the view of Honolulu and the mountains is striking. We got room service twice a day.
Bali by the Sea restaurant is very intimate. They gave us a steaming chocolate volcano for dessert! Service and food at the Golden Dragon was excellent and the bill was under 60 bucks. I really wanted to buy their dragon plates; unfortunately, they didn't sell them. The Friday night show and fireworks are entertaining. There are plenty of bars and live music, too. The DFS Galleria and ABC store are on premises for most of your shopping needs. For more demanding shoppers there are plenty of boutique and designer shops.
The beach is exceptionally clean and the water is very clean and warm, too. The ocean felt like an enormous bathtub, just the right temperature.
Our trip began with a minor conflict. We booked our trip through Liberty Travel and we were supposed to get either a Rainbow, Diamond Head or Tapa Tower room with a garden view. Instead we got Kalia tower with city view and two beds! We complained and after an hour of negotiations we got upgraded to a corner room in Ali'i Tower with an ocean view and enormous terrace for no extra charge. No complains there!
The only other bad thing about the property is that I found it to be overcrowded. It was hard to get a chair near any pool. Whenever we went for breakfast we ended up waiting for up to 20 minutes for a table. Also, if you rent an umbrella, they tell you that if you leave a towel, no one will take your place. This isn't true: there aren't enough umbrellas, so ours was snatched when we stepped away to the bar.
A few other comments. Don't do the submarine tour: nothing to see there. Don't go to dinner and show events: see the show, but don't take dinner – the food is awful! Don't take premium packages on Paradise Cove luau: regular is just enough. Paradise Cove itself is a very beautiful place. I also recommend climbing Diamond Head, visiting the Dole Plantation (check out those red pineapples) and going to the Botanic Garden, make sure to see the cliff diving show.
One last remark: twice we tried to take a walk along the beach and both times we were harassed by locals, who asked us for money. We also saw people sleeping under palm trees on the beach after dark.
In summary, I feel that Hilton Hawaiian Village is the place to stay on Waikiki. I want to go there again and I actively recommend it to everyone.
