Spacious and convenient, but Waikiki is noisy! Visited: May 2001 |

My wife and I spent three nights here in late May. Our room was large and well appointed, and did we appreciate the AC! My wife is diabetic, and the staff were quick to bring a refrigerator up to the room to store her insulin. Everyone was friendly and courteous-- a real plus.
Underground parking at reasonable rates-- a real plus. Surcharges for beach umbrellas-- a real negative. The beach is nice, but the pool area predictably cramped-- get there by 7:30 if you want to guarantee your favorite spot.
Food is excellent, and Duke's being Duke's, the breakfast buffet and lunch plates assure that no one will leave the table hungry.
The only real downside is noise from outside the hotel; we were on the 8th floor, and did not enjoy the nightly serenade off the boulevard, which was as bad as it was loud. Ask for a room as close to the beach as you can get, not for the view but for the quiet.
An A+ for convenience: there were fine Japanese and Korean restaurants in the mall next door, and my wife very quickly got on a first-name basis with most of the staff running the stores on the ground floor. In sum: worth the money, but watch out for the street noise! |
