Bellevue Plantation Estate is a historic Bahamian villa with distinctive island touches. A full staff makes sure that your stay is pleasant and worry-free. You can relax on the veranda with a good book or take your sketch pad and capture the seascape spread out before you. The pool is large enough to get in a few laps, or grab a lounger and let the sunshine heal your soul. Ask the cook to set up your evening meal on the covered veranda so you can watch the sun set over the sea.
Bellevue Plantation Estate is a newly remodeled plantation estate home. The house sits within a wooded area at the end of an unmarked road. It's a real surprise for those who chance upon it unexpectedly! The gates, mature trees, and the immaculate lawns tell you that something special lies beyond. On a ridge overlooking a gully (amid three acres of land), the house is now surrounded by tall trees, but it once must have had the view of Belle Plantation spread out below, hence the name, Bellevue.
Bellevue was known as Anton Hall in the late 18th Century and is believed to have been built between 1735 and 1750. Owners over the centuries reflect the classic Barbadian plantation names - Dowdings, Connells & Collymores. The last owner was Dr. Arno Trieloff who recently sold it to the present owners, who have modernized it while keeping the traditional Barbadian style.
The original house would have been constructed with the square Georgian blocks so common throughout the British Colonial islands. However, the term "Caribbean Georgian" was coined to describe the tropical touches to this style that evolved in the West Indies. The use of limestone, the adding of verandas and galleries, raising the house over a full basement, adding exterior stairs and push-out windows with jalousies shutters are just a few of the touches you will see at Bellevue.
Bellevue is a great residence to be used for events such as weddings, incentive groups, and retreats as there are large entertainment rooms and spacious grounds with a large swimming pool and bar area. Bellevue is located just 10 minutes from Bridgetown and the south coast beaches and has a view across the Bridgetown Harbor.
As you enter the grounds, you are immediately struck by the grace of yesteryear. A dual stairway leads to the large, wraparound veranda on the second level, from whence guests can take advantage of the views of the countryside, Bridgetown Harbor and/or watch the sun set while sipping cocktails.
The entrance hall and formal living area, both with wooden floors and antique pieces, is located on the main level of the property. The master suite and three guest suites are also on this level. They are all air-conditioned and three of them open onto balconies. On the lower level are two further guest suites, a study, and a large family room featuring a mosaic design of the island of Barbados. There are two large dining tables that are great for elegant dining or holding board meetings. The formal dining room opens onto the dining terrace and lounging patio. This patio looks out to the large pool and deck which are surrounded by numerous mature trees and immacluate garden.
There is a 2-bedroom cottage located on the grounds that can be rented for additional guests.
