Cascades Villa, St. Martin reviewVisited: November 2012
Our entourage of three families (comprised of three couples and five kids) enjoyed staying at this beautiful property. The grounds were extensive, and included a grounds keeper who lives on the property in his own small place. He also works for a local French bakery and can deliver fresh baguettes, croissants, pastries, etc to you each morning if you like.
There was a sliding gate and a wall around the property as most villas in this area did. There was also a security gate manned 24-7 to enter Terres Basse.
The closest shopping was the Dutch side at a new market. It was smaller than a typical grocery store, but good for most things. Prices were listed in Guilders, so just be aware the prices are not USD and it won't seem so expensive!
For specialty items we shopped on the French side. There was a good cheese/gourmet store on the main road while passing through Grand Case. There was also a huge new grocery store past Grand Case at next roundabout on way to Orient Beach.
As for the villa - it was a very short walk down to Plum Beach, which was a nice beach. Swimming was good for older children.
The kitchen was well equipped, and the barbeque was working. There were two fridges upstairs and one downstairs in the bar/game room.
It was a large property and open floor plan. That is important to know because the living/kitchen area literally opened up onto the patio and pool. This was beautiful and we have enjoyed this before.
However, there really isn't a sliding door one can close easily and consequently, and there is no AC in common areas. It was quite hot even with the two fans blowing. Mosquitoes appeared early morning and early evening.
The bedrooms were also down an outdoor corridor. For older children, this place is great. If you have small children, it is challenging since the layout is spread out and there is now way to contain them or prevent them from wondering out to the pool.
Overall, we did have a wonderful time. The views were just gorgeous and so relaxing. We love St. Martin and will definitely be back!
