Monte Bay Villa, St. John villa review
This villa was perfect for our party of 11. Cold AC, Hot water, lots of space in the outdoor living room. Beach chairs, coolers and more provided. The best part was the amazing view! I would definitely stay here again :)
The staff is amazing they met us at the car rental place and walked us through the property.
Shawna, from WhereToStay, was great at communicating back and forth and helping out with questions we had.

Villa was extremely clean, beautiful view, Great accommodations! Betsy, was beyond amazing for booking, many questions, giving information of places to go and see. Highly recommend WhereToStay, Betsy, Lucian and all the others who made reservations for us! This was my 5th time to islands and by far the best! Highly recommended house and this company!
Working with Betsy at WhereToStay was hands down wonderful, couldn’t have asked for a better agent and all her helpers! A job well done with everything!

Most gorgeous place ever
Monte Bay Villa, St. John villa review
Monte villa was a dream!! Every room had an amazing view of the gorgeous Caribbean side of St John. The open layout adds to the beauty. We loved the outdoor showers. It was incredible to wake up to the sound of the ocean hitting the rocks. It was perfect for our family of 16. Luciah and Kayann were amazing - they made sure we had everything we needed. The pool and grounds were maintained even during our stay. The house is tucked in on a hill surrounded by beautiful palms and tropical flowers everywhere. The children loved following the hermit crabs around the house. The kitchen had all we needed for our big family. It was wonderful to have air conditioning in all the bedrooms that worked perfectly. The only downside is the cottage house was musty but doable. I would recommend Monte Villa and would love to return.
Betsy, with WhereToStay answered any concerns we had prior to arriving and Luciah and Kayann were a text away always answering very promptly. They were accommodating with our many flight delays as well.

Wedding trip
Monte Bay Villa, St. John villa review
We were attending a destination wedding with thee other families and all shared the Monte bay villa for a full week. I’m not sure we could have found a more beautiful villa or location. The views are amazing and the breeze off the ocean was so relaxing. The villa has lots of room to make sharing with other families simple and equitable. We even used the gate house which is a great option for large groups. The amenities throughout the villa are top notch. The pool, lanai, kitchen were all wonderful. We can’t wait to return!!
The team at wheretostay was terrific from our initial search all the way through our vacation. Shawna and her team had the added pressure of assisting us find two large villas near one another as we had a very large group attending a wedding. Once we decoded on our two villas Shawna was very helpful with lining up ferry tickets, rental cars and all other issues we needed to know for our first visit to st John. The process was seamless from start to finish and i would highly recommend this group when booking a visit!

Perfect for a Group Getaway
Monte Bay Villa, St. John villa review
This place was perfect for our group. We hade 7 couples, each had their own bedroom with either outdoor or generally private access. The rooms next to the main space are still quiet and feel away from any noise. Open the extra large sliding doors and then there is fluid space from the kitchen to the amazing veranda. We spent each morning and evening on veranda, it was beautiful. The fans were plenty to keep the warm air from being a problem in the open space, even the kitchen! We spent a full day and many afternoons at the pool with the amazing view. Of minor note, the in pool light leaves a little to be desired.
The layout is perfect for a group to get together. Plenty of room for 3 to 4 jeeps in the driveway and only 10 minutes to Cruz Bay and the grocery store. Recommend a car(s), since cabs did not really want to venture into that area. Walking distance to a pebble beach where we dropped in paddle boards (water shoes needed), The beach right below the villa had lots of sea urchins, watch your step. Beautiful grounds and villa, we enjoyed every minute.
Betsy was a pleasure to work with. We had to make a change for Covid and she worked to take care of it. We were generally low maintenance but she answered every question quickly and with understanding. Thank you Betsy for making our stay easy and finding us this perfect spot.

Monte Bay has great views, and is a beautiful house. It’s a little hard to get to town and to the major beaches on the island, but that is the case for most of the villas on St. John. Altogether, 4/5 experience.

Monte Bay Villa, St. John villa review
My husband and I have been coming to STJ for 6 years, and we wanted to share the island we love with our longtime friends. Monte Bay Villa is located right above the water and has amazing views. The pool was a nice place to cool off at the end of the day. It is very private, and can’t be seen by any neighbors. We only used two of the bedrooms, but both beds were very comfortable. The air-conditioning worked well in those two rooms. The kitchen and den don’t have A/C, so it got a bit hot while we were cooking at night. The open-air veranda has a nice table and comfortable chairs, and we enjoyed playing games/cards there every night. Bring your own games/cards though, as the villa did not have any. Like most places in STJ, the mosquitos can be a bit bothersome at night. It would have been nice if housekeeping had left bug spray for us. We used the grill most evenings and always had plenty of propane. My husband loves to listen to music, so we checked before we arrived and learned the villa did not have speakers or a stereo system. We loved our time at Monte Bay Villa. The house was very clean and the grounds were beautiful. A few things that could help make Monte Bay Villa even better would be a welcome basket (most villas do this), snorkel gear, and ice chests. The villa needs a little TLC in the kitchen, and would benefit from more plates, utensils, and some good knives.
I was very impressed with WhereToStay and Shawna. From the first inquiry, she was quick to respond and found out answers to all my questions about things the villa did or did not have. She kept me informed throughout the whole process and made everything soooo easy. I like how WhereToStay has a good amount of villas to select from, but not so many where it can be overwhelming (like another popular rental site). I will definitely be using Shawna and WheretoStay again for my next vacation.

Gorgeous Views/ deferred maintence

The views were breathtaking but, the villa itself had not been maintained.
In the room we stayed there were 3/4 light bulbs missing or blown out.
The staircase lights and pool lights did not work . The pool was dirty when we arrived. My 80 year old parents walking up and down staircases to the master suite was challenging at nght with no lights. I realize they listed this property during our stay and, had obviously deferrred a good bit of general upkeep and maintenance. We had leaky and non-working AC units. The dishwasher did not clean the dishes. Coffee maker did not brew. The steps down to the water were hazardous and broken which, in turn are a liabilty. We had a blast regardless and did really love the location and beaches. Overall the property needed some maintenance and updating.
We also noticed the guest house was lit and open we did not use it but, just wanted to verify we were not charged for it?
We could not lock the villa when leaving. The back doors could not be secured. We had an issue with someone coming to the house while my mother was there alone. He knocked on the door and was suprised when she answered. He said he need a plastic bottle for a leak, she informed him my family just took out the trash to the dump. He said I see a sprite bottle next to the kithcen sink. (he had obviously been peeking through the windows) a little unerving.
Shawna was great and worked with me for over a year to accommodate this trip.
Jay and his wife were indeed lovely and very accommodating.
