Know Before You Go...®
La Mexicaine Villa is one of the most unusual properties on the island. It feels like a southwestern escape, but enjoys Caribbean amenities like a private pool, ocean views, and al fresco living. The bedrooms have the same amenities, so you can invite another couple on vacation.
Unique Property!
La Mexicaine Villa is located high in Lurin just a short drive from Gouverneur Beach. This hacienda-style home was once owned by the Russian Ballet dancer, Mikhail Baryshnikov and was built with local materials from Mexico.
The terra-cotta terrace has a handmade stone gas barbecue and a wrought-iron dining table with white, yellow, and blue mosaic tiles. There’s a small garden for guests to relax in and a heated swimming pool with a hillside view. Cushioned lounge chairs provide space for sunbathing, reading, and napping around the pool. Enjoy a drink in the shade of the gazebo overlooking the valley, St. Jean Bay, and the ocean. The Bocce/Pétanque court by the green lawn area at the end of the terrace is perfect for competition and entertainment. Daily housekeeping, pool maintenance, and a gardener take care of the property.
Handmade brick and terra-cotta arched ceilings give the rooms both volume and acoustics. The thick walls contain water cisterns that keep the rooms cool, and the large arched wooden doors let the island air circulate freely throughout the villa. The kitchen is small but well-appointed with standard appliances, a coffeemaker, and cookware. Its decorated with hand-painted Mexican tiles. The living room features an arched, brick ceiling and is furnished with a plush sofa and chairs. There’s a SONOS system, DVD player, and Dish network so guests can enjoy movies and music whenever they want. The library and board games are nestled into an alcove off the living room. The dining room is at the entrance, with a large wooden table for 6 guests. Both king suites have a TV with US satellite and an ensuite bathroom with a tub and shower. The entire villa enjoys air-conditioning and WiFi.
La Mexicaine is only 5 minutes from shopping and restaurants in Gustavia and 10 minutes from the airport. Gustavia has everything travelers could need, from boat rentals to banking to global cuisine.
