What's special about Guadeloupe?

Guadeloupe is a tiny island sandwiched between Anguilla and Dominica. It is predominantly French and Creole and that is reflected in the architecture and the languages spoken on the island. Most of the hotels and resorts have staff members that speak English and a few other languages, but if you don’t speak French and want to do some sightseeing and shopping on your own, be sure you take a translation dictionary along.

The island of Guadeloupe is divided into two distinct topographical regions. On the east side of the island—Grand Terre—you’ll find excellent beaches with many options for water sports of all kinds. On the west side—Basse Terre—the terrain is rough and forested. Basse Terre is the site of a number of volcanoes and offers visitors many hiking trails and photo vistas.

The accommodations on Guadeloupe are excellent. There are hotels and resorts of all sizes and price points, and the island has even been compared to the French Riviera by some of its visitors. Guadeloupe villa rentals may be another option for visitors, as well as bungalows and B&Bs.

You won’t have to look far for entertainment while on Guadeloupe. Water sports abound, as you might expect, but the island is also dotted with parks, hiking trails, volcanoes and biking trails for day-trippers. At night, the rhythms of the island bring out the party people. There are venues with casinos, live music, spicy Creole food, and dance floors that are always filled with revelers. Pack your party shoes and plan on having the time of your life while in Guadeloupe.
