Food for Every Mood in the Caribbean

Pan-Seared Yellow-Fin Tuna at Ocean Echo

Islands offer more than gorgeous beaches and unforgettable sunsets, the tropical climate provides the perfect ingredients for heavenly cuisine. You can find a delicious meal on almost any island, but one of the advantages to being “the Caribbean experts” is knowing the best spots for a bite to eat. In the WhereToStay office, we spend many moments reminiscing about our favorite meals and dining experiences. Here’s a few of the restaurants that always get our stomachs growling:

Anguilla - Ocean Echo

This Five Star restaurant has set a high standard for International and Caribbean cuisine, and it’s beloved by travelers and locals alike for the famous “Rumzie” cocktail. Ocean Echo offers a beachside location, panoramic ocean views, and frequent live music. Order the Sombrero Lobster Salad, served in a conch shell, and dig in while taking in the view. Open daily from 11 am to 10 pm.

Barbados - Tapas

Gorgeous views, unique food, and a tropical ambience make this boardwalk restaurant stand out from the rest. There’s something on the menu for any appetite, but we’re partial to the cocktails. Tapas offers excellent food and service, so make sure to book your reservation in advance. Open daily from 10 AM to 11 PM.

Cayman - Catch Restaurant & Lounge

Nestled near Morgan’s Harbor, Catch combines al fresco dining with the island’s freshest cuisine. Live music on Saturday nights and the famous Catch Tasting Platter add an element of surprise to reliably delicious meals. The restaurant is open daily from 11 AM to 10 PM, and there’s a new reason to visit every day throughout the week, from Sunday Brunch to the daily specials.

St. Barts - Maya’s

Maya’s opened on St. Barts in 1984, making it an island staple. Since the beginning, the menu changes daily to use the freshest products available and to keep things simple and clean. There are five or six appetizers every day, and the main courses always include fresh fish, shrimp, the local langouste, calamars, chicken, and some kind of red meat, beef or lamb. Maya’s also offers Maya’s to Go, which provides delivery, event hosting, and catering.

St. John - Extra Virgin Bistro

This Cruz Bay beauty is dedicated to locally grown and sourced products. You know everything is fresh, because Extra Virgin lists each day’s catch with the name of whoever caught it. They grow their herbs onsite and offer a wide variety of dishes, including calamari, gnocchi, salad, pasta, pork chop, and mussels. Don’t miss the extensive wine list! Open Monday - Saturday from 5:30 PM to 9:00 PM.

St. Martin - Sol e Luna

Sol e Luna draws guests into an elegant, intimate culinary experience in the heart of the Caribbean. This Creole-style house is nestled in a tropical garden, and you can choose to sit outside on the terraces along the front of the house, under the gazebos around a pool, or inside the restaurant with views of the open kitchen. The cocktail of the house is the “Royal Mojito,” and a sommelier is available to provide dishes based on a selection of preferred wines from the cellar.

Turks and Caicos - Coco Bistro

Coco Bistro seats guests beneath a romantic palm frond canopy amongst a grove of coconut palms. This restaurant combines local cuisine with a delightful ambience to create a food-lover’s fantasy. An evening at Coco Bistro is a great investment for any special occasion. It’s hard to get reservations, so book early! Open daily from 5:30 PM to 10 PM.
